We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

HER Wine was sparked by two heartfelt reasons, both rooted in my genuine love for wine and a deep yearning for meaningful representation. As someone who is an avid wine DRINKING Enthusiast, I found myself at a point where wine felt boring and unfulfillng.
During my weekly  visit to a wine aisle at my grocery store, I couldn’t help but notice the sameness on the shelves. None of the labels spoke to me, and as a black woman, I felt a distinct absence of representation. This void inspired me to embark on a mission to craft a brand that truly resonates with our experiences and celebrates our identity.
Her Wine is more than just a beverage; it’s a story of inclusivity and relatability tailored for us. The names on our bottles are carefully chosen to evoke a profound connection. I wanted to create a space where women, in particular, could see themselves reflected, feel genuinely understood, and find comfort in shared life experiences.
The evolution of the brand’s name is a reflection of our dynamic life journey. It’s born out of the realization that, in the course of navigating life, we often prioritize others over ourselves. Her Wine is an invitation to shift that narrative, granting each of us permission to embrace and savor those precious self-care moments we undeniably deserve.

What should our readers know about your business?

I started out as your typical corporate girl who simply enjoyed unwinding with a glass of wine. Then, one day, I thought, “Why not try making my own?” And just like that, my winemaking journey began.
Now, as a true lover of wine, I’ve crafted a brand that’s all about capturing the essence of everyday women like us. It’s not just about the drink; it’s a reminder for us hardworking gals to embrace those moments of peace, relaxation, and well-deserved me-time.
Let’s be real—I get the struggle of prioritizing self-care, and it’s an ongoing journey for me too. What makes my wine stand out is that each bottle’s name reflects those relatable moments we all go through. “Finally after five,” because who doesn’t get that 5 o’clock feeling? “Mama needs a break,” because, let’s face it, we all need a breather. And “A toast to me,” because we all have victories worth celebrating.
It’s the relatability of these names that sets my brand apart. So, here’s to sharing moments, celebrating victories, and enjoying a sip of something that feels just right.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

My absolute go-to in the city has to be any spot that lets me savor my wine. But when I’m looking for a bit more than just a sip, Cigar City Lounge steals the show. Picture this: a glass of wine in hand, surrounded by live jazz music—it’s the epitome of grown and sexy vibes. The ambiance there is just something else.
Now, for a change of scenery, The Polaris is my dinner destination of choice. Their rooftop restaurant is a gem, with my wines on the menu, and the view is downright breathtaking. The culinary experience? Top-notch. Huge shoutout to Chef Thomas and Dyshun, the restaurant manager—they’re not just phenomenal; they’re also big supporters of minority businesses.
Beyond that, there are some seriously cool spots owned by black women that I can’t get enough of. Take Life Within Candles in Fairburn, Georgia, for instance—it’s a haven for candle enthusiasts like me. Then there’s Graze Craze Buckhead, a charcuterie board paradise and a class rolled into one. These places are the essence of what makes the city so vibrant for me.
Cheers to discovering new favorites and supporting local businesses!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been truly blessed to be on the receiving end of some incredible mentorship in this industry. Shoutout to the amazing mentors who’ve been guiding lights for me, and what’s even more special—they’re fellow minority-owned brands. Big kudos to Kevin John of Island Jon Vodka, Rolesha Brown of Sukari Spirits, and Ricardo Kelly of Kelly Family Distributors. These incredible individuals have shared a wealth of wisdom, knowledge, and have been instrumental in helping me navigate the intricate waters of the wine and spirits space. Grateful for their support and the lessons learned along this exciting journey!
