We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Alexis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue a music career because it is my one true passion that has stuck with me my whole life. My interest in music began when I was very young. For as long as I can remember I have had an ear and passion for music. I remember when I was 5 years old I wrote my first song on a napkin and 20 years later I continue to pursue this dream. My goal in my creative career is to create music that people can relate to and feel connected with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an artist, singer/songwriter, and music producer. I have been playing music for about as long as I can remember. When I was young, I had a natural ear for music and told my Mom at 5 years old that I wanted to take drum lessons. She then took me to a music store who told her I was too young to teach drums and recommended I started on piano and work my way up to drum lessons. After a couple of lessons, I was able to play the songs taught to me by ear rather than reading the sheet music so the music instructor gave me the OK to take drum lessons. I then jumped from instrument to instrument learning just about every element in music production including guitar which is now my main instrument of choice. I have finally begun writing and producing music to be released on my personal artist project after many years of developing my skills and making connections in the industry. It has been a long road and I am proud of the work I have put into making it this far and so excited to see what the future holds!

The challenge I have found with pursuing a career as an artist is you have to have an entrepreneurial mindset and learn every part of the business. You have to be your own videographer, producer, performer, booking agent, business manager, social media manager. Without developing these skills, it is a difficult waiting game to count on the right people to come in and see your vision on the same level that you do. There are constantly changes and it is important to stay agile and ready to make your next move.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Atlanta, there are so many amazing places to visit! I love to take friends out to the Beltline, Ponce City Market and Krog Street to enjoy the fresh air, amazing food, and embrace the Atlanta culture! I also love that Atlanta has so many great music venues to catch anything from local artists to the biggest acts in music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The success I have had in my career so far goes out to the support of both my husband and parents. Without my husband’s support, I would never have had the courage to pursue a career in music. From the second we met, he has wholeheartedly believed in my talent and has made it his mission to help make my dreams come true. Without him, my music career would have fallen by the wayside so I give it all to him and his continued support. I would also like to shout out my parents for the countless hours of taking me to music lessons, watching performances, patiently watching as I showed them new songs I had learned and for the many many instruments I have played extremely loudly around the house throughout all hours of the day.ersonalNicoleAlexis__IMG2998_
