We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Watkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, it started when I purchased my first home years ago and became responsible for keeping my yard up. I had to learn how to do it first. So, I started going on YouTube and searching things I could do to improve my grass. Once I learned some new tricks, I became obsessed with the results, and wanted to treat my family and friends’ yards also. After doing theirs and getting good feedback, I decided to start my own lawncare business because it had become a hobby of mine. “Greenway” is the street name of my childhood home, so I always wanted to keep that with me. To never forget where I came from.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My lawncare business focuses on making people happy. Making people feel good about their yard, makes me proud. I feel like that’s what got me to where I am today. Just being a genuine person. Giving out positive energy and getting that karma back in return is what has kept me going. Knowing where I came from and my tough upbringing, I can definitely say I’m pretty blessed. My lessons learned are to always stay focused on your goals and only keep people around, that are on the same frequency as you. This is the part of the movie where they cheer for the guy who turned nothing into something.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m really a home body, so I may not be up to date with the city moves, but if we must. In no particular order of the week, we’d have to hit Maggiano’s, Ruth’s Chris, Atlanta Fish Market and about any Mexican Food spot to eat. We’d have to hit a Braves, Hawks or Falcons game, depending on the season my friend is visiting. And if we’re just kicking it, we’d have to hit Putt Shack and Skyline Park for a vibe. Then Boogalou, Ice Bar Lounge and Club Blaze for drinks and a little razzle dazzle.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my wife LaKeira Watkins & my family for believing & supporting my visions. I also want to shout out S*L*Y*B*B*C & the guys for the way we push each other to be better men.
