Meet Nick Garrity | Alloy Personal Training Franchisee and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Garrity and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been fortunate over the last few years to work for multiple franchises and see the “behind the scenes” that I was never truly privy to and now am able to have a more comprehensive understanding as to what it takes to be the owner. More importantly I get to provide amazing jobs for industry professionals like me that are used to working as independent contractors, working hour to hour to make ends meet, all while doing something that directly impacts people’s quality of life and health on a daily basis!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like I am the compilation of both educated leaps of faith and opportune meetings to make me what I am today. It took a big leap to leave my tiny home town in Massachusetts to do my graduate degree internship at the University of Tennessee one summer, but I met some of the leaders in the Strength and Conditioning world that lead to a future role with D1 Sports Training and my first experience in the franchise world. Through one of my members there in Nashville I was introduced to a couple of entrepreneurs in Atlanta that were starting a state of the art golf performance center and took another leap of faith to move here to help start that! After 10 years working with some of the best golfers in the world and many of the “who’s who” in Atlanta I wanted to start my own business, but fortunately for me I was offered a role with another franchise development team that I then became the Development Director for and helped open over 20 franchise locations across 4 different businesses all over the country. Now I’m a co-owner of Alloy Personal Training Franchises here in greater Atlanta!
I’ve learned through many trials and errors that no one else will want anything as bad as you will and thus will not work as hard or as diligently for it. It’s a constant fight to keep motivating others to achieve the common goal and build something of quality. I’m so fired up to be building this future for not only my family, but hopefully for the many men and women like me that are finding their ways in the fitness and wellness industry!
Alloy Personal Training is truly a unique fitness concept that specializes in small group personal training (never more that 6 people at a time) and we typically work with people over the age of 40, although anyone from a high school athlete to a grandparent can work with us. EVERY client is individually assessed to begin their training with us and based upon our findings we custom tailor a program for them specific to their needs and goals!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You can probably guess that I’m a sports fan so I always try to see if there’s either a Falcons, United or Braves game to attend and if not The Battery has so much to offer we’ll typically go there anyway and choose from a great variety of restaurants and bars. My wife and I are huge fans of Superica and I still think that Fox Brothers is the best BBQ in the city! I’m also an avid golfer and love North Georgia so if we can tee it up somewhere in Alpharetta and then go see one of Georgia’s many waterfalls or lakes we my VRBO a mountain house and get away to the fresh air in Blue Ridge or Jasper.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been fortunate to work with and for so many great professionals in the field of fitness and wellness, but at this point in my career I’d like to give a shoutout to Tim Spiker, the author of “The Only Leaders Worth* Following”, who not only inspired me through his book, but also has stepped in as a mentor to me over the last few years. His book is arguably the best leadership book I’ve read to date and uses both data and leadership feedback to equip leaders that want to understand what truly makes a great leader, the “Who” not “What.” He’s also introduced me to other leadership gurus and has been so unselfish with his time and advice. I recommend that anyone interested in becoming a better person, spouse and leader read this book!
