We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicholas Cousar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicholas, can you talk us a bit about why you love what you do?
As a CEO and creative director of multimedia production company, “NeverMind Creating,” I want to go on record to say that I love what I do! It is refueling to use my God-given talents to create and produce my music, take pictures, and create video content, not only for myself but most of all to help others. I love helping my family, friends, and clients bring their creativity and vision to life. My parents and mentors have always told me that when you do what you love and love what you do it doesn’t feel like work or a job, it becomes your passion. It brings me happiness to be able to pursue my passion and the mission of NeverMindCreating which is to create a driving force that will assist people in fulfilling their destiny. What I love most about what I do, is that I’m able to assist my clients, family and friends with bringing their creativity to life. Sometimes in life we find ourselves faced with a vision but we can’t see how to produce it. It brings me joy to develop creative content for them and watch their reaction unfold after they see the final product. With that being said, remember that God will always send the right people along your path to assist you in bringing your vision to life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work. Please tell us, what set you a part from others?
“Be a sponge. Soak up as much as you can from those around you and those who inspire you to hone your craft.” These words were spoken by my late mentor Mr. Michael A. Washington. I learned that, it’s the hard work and dedication that I had to put into my craft, skill and creativity over the years. I’ve learned that things do not happen immediately, when you want them to. I had to learn and understand patience. Patience is the key to success, it is part of the process and most of all you must trust and have faith in God and know that everything is on his timing.

What are you most proud of or excited about?
When I look back over my life and everything I’ve done and accomplished from graduating college, with a business degree while operating my business and also having the opportunity to speak at actress Jane Fonda‘s 80th birthday celebration or being featured in a magazine or performance. The moment that stands out to me will be the day I met and performed “Get Jiggy With It” with recording artist/ actor Will Smith on December 11, 2008. Will Smith attend my middle and high school “Northwest School of the Performing Arts”, He encourage the students, to set goals, to read and run. He says it’s important for them to fit both physically and spiritually. These words gave me the motivation to never give up on my dreams. I set my goals and can achieve anything I set my mind to, I read to understand and become more knowledgeable and I run towards my destiny and believe that it is possible to live my dreams as I run towards it.

How did you get to where you are today, professionally?
Getting to where I am today professionally, took prayer, faith, hard work, patience and determination. I have been fascinated with the arts since early childhood. I was showing my parents my extraordinary talents like mimicking legends such as Earth, Wind and Fire and Michael Jackson. I started to play the drums for my church and began writing and performing my own songs and music. I attended Northwest School of the Performing Arts, in Charlotte, NC. I learned music theory, engineering/recording arts, film recording and the music business while performing in the band and performing showcase. I’ve always told myself that, I would have my own company one day. After graduating in 2010, I moved to Atlanta to continue my education and pursue my dreams as becoming a recording artist, producer and even wanting to start my own company. I completed my Associate degree in Business at Georgia Perimeter Community College which is currently now Georgia State University. While attending college my passion for my music grew, while experiencing new things on my music journey, like attending the Nashville Connections Songsters Bus music conference as well as being interviewed by Jennifer Martin from WSPA and even being a peer educator for Actress Jane Fonda non-profit GCAPP in here in Atlanta. I wrote a song, created video content and even help create an idea for an app for GCAPP. Few years later, I had an opportunity to speak at Jane Fonda’s 80th Birthday Celebration. Even though my gifts made room for me to connect and meet different people on my music journey, I still had unfinished business that needed to be completed like earning my bachelor’s degree. I started my company “Never Mind Creating” and enrolled into Savannah State University as an online transfer student in the Business Management program and graduated Magna Cum Laude with the highest gpa in my major. Was it easy? No. This experience has not always been a smooth road, but it has been a wonderful experience. Working, while going to school full time and operating a business, has its ups and downs. You must learn how to discipline yourself and have patience to be able to multi-task major things within your life. You have to create a balance and stay focused and don’t get distracted from the goals, you plan to reach. At times, I’ve struggled with growing my clients, because NeverMindCreating was a new and upcoming multimedia production company, so I, had compete with other multimedia production companies that are well established and have a loyal clientele. I had to work, study for tests and create presentations and was pushing myself to the max, that there was even a time when I wanted to quit school and give up music, but that was all out of fear because I thought I needed to be doing what others where doing. How did you overcome these challenges? I over came these challenges through prayer and staying connected to God, I prayed and asked God to order my steps and give me strength, when I was weak or felt like giving up. I talked to my family and few friends and all of their love and support and encouraging words and prayers, kept me going. I build my faith and believe and knew that I was made for this and I was determined to earn my degree. So, while earning my degree in business, I was able to build NeverMindCreating the way I need to because with all of my projects in school, I created and developed a business and marking plan for my business the way I needed to. What are some of the lessons I learned along the way? Some of the lessons that I learned along the way is that “Winners never quit, and quitters never win”. I had to stay true to myself and remember words spoken to me by my father, “Business first, play later” and I was able to use these principles that I’ve learned and apply them to my everyday life, while doing my music, creating my business, earning my degree and working. I also had to learn that I as a business owner, your prices are your prices and all money is not good money. I had to make positive and effective decisions as man, that no one else could make for me.

What did you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What I want the world to know about me is at an early age, I fell in love with it. It doesn’t matter what kind of mood i was in, happy, sad or angry, when I felt it in my heart and soul, it took control and nothing else mattered, it was the music. You see, music is in my blood, it’s a part of my DNA. It provides me an outlet to a world free and full of creativity. It’s where I feel comfortable, I have the ability to speak what on my mind and express what I feeling from my heart. Fear is not an option to me, can’t is not in my vocabulary, I will succeed, this is my Destiny. When you know to“Stay pure and true to yourself and allow your light to shine”, you can understand your purpose and your true calling in life. God created me to be unique. I’m special, full and equipped with many talents. I learned over the years that I can do anything I set my mind to, as long as I trust and believe and keep my faith in God and keep him first and everything will go according to his plan and to his will. I use the gifts that he has given me to create my own business “NeverMindCreating” which is a full service multi-media production company that is based in Atlanta, GA that specializes in audio and video production services including, creating custom music, photography, videography, editing, producing, recording and directing and writing. I believe that “you should never waste a creative mind”, so I started this company to help others and to give everyone with a dream, just like me the ability to have a platform to create and to help turn their dreams into reality”. I am very blessed and thankful because through my company I’ve had the opportunity to have met, connect, network and be in the presence of people from the entertainment industry. I’ve moved one step closer to my dreams. I said all of this to say, to the readers, if I can do it, so can you. You must remember to work hard, take pride in and practice your craft. Continue to stay prayed up and have faith. You must be dedicated and even make some sacrifices. But most of all I did not give up on my dreams and you shouldn’t give up on yours either, continue to move forward!!! Peace and Blessings Nicholas Cousar

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend came to town for a week long trip, our itinerary would consist of great food and drink experiences, shopping, and a range of evening entertainment. In my opinion, it’s meaningful to welcome guests with a meal prepared at home so I’d begin by cooking a culinary experience in my very own kitchen! Through the rest of the week we would frequent local restaurants such as the Sundial, AGAVE and Pappadeaux just to name a few, as well as bars like the St. Regis. For those who have never been, Atlanta based day experiences are a must! Shopping at Lenox Mall is always a memory maker as it is watching me perform at The Music Room or an open mike, watching a live band session with “The Band of Brothas” and “Grits and Jelly Butter,” museum-hopping, visiting the Georgia Aquarium, the Coca-Cola factory, and the Botanical Gardens. Evening experiences would consist of a show at the Fox Theater, a sporting event, and various lounges to either relax or dance all night long.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of people who deserve credit but there are a few who have played an unparalleled role in my success. My beautiful mother is a praying woman and my number one fan. It goes without saying that she is one of my biggest supporters. She helps to promotes my business in whatever way she can, but has also taken on the role of booking me with new clients. Growing up, she always loved watching me perform my music and play the drums. Since, she has encouraged me to continue following my dreams. Thank you Mom for raising me and teaching me how to be a true gentleman.  My father also plays a huge role in my success as my mentor by being a true supporter. My father has taught me the art of making good decisions and life and business. I thank you, Dad, for teaching me “Business First, Play later”.  Thank you for raising and teaching me how to be a true Gentleman.  To my little brother Jeremy,  I thank for you playing a huge role in my success as a supporter and most of all, a teammate.  You inspire me and you make me remember, that I continue to be a great leader and must lead by examples at all times, because I have someone watching my every move. Thank you, for all of your encouraging words and for pushing me to be a good big brother and continue to reach higher heights in life and in my career. To all of my family and friends, thank you all of your love and support. “Be a sponge. Soak up as much as you can from those around you and those who inspire you to hone your craft.” These words were spoken by my late mentor Mr. Michael A. Washington. My current mentor, Edward Billingsley always reminds me to, “Stay pure and true to yourself. Allow your light to shine.” Thank you to Amy McNish for featuring my business, “NeverMindCreating,” in your publication, “Live in Color Fashion & Lifestyle Magazine.” It was a pleasure to participate and to have such an amazing opportunity to be an editorial model for the magazine as well. I would like to thank all of my clients and businesses that have allowed NeverMind Creating the opportunity to take photos and create video content for your business: ELC Mobile Detailing Service, Country Muscle, Jane Fonda non-profit organization GCAPP, KashQueen, Body Crystals CO, Great Escapes By Shay and Author Pamela Tucker, recording artist/ actor Jeremy Cousar and Gaston Barbershop and Divinely Couture Beauty and many more.
