We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My success as a surrealist digital portrait artist is rooted in staying true to myself. By authentically capturing the experiences and essence of POC women, I aim to uplift underrepresented voices and celebrate diverse aspects of femininity. Maintaining my artistic integrity has been key, resisting the pressure to conform and ensuring my work remains a powerful testament to the beauty and strength found in individuality.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a deep dive into the rich tapestry of emotions and strengths of POC women, providing a genuine portrayal that breaks away from stereotypes. What sets my work apart is the commitment to capturing both the highs and lows of these experiences. The journey to where I am today hasn’t been a walk in the park; it’s an ongoing adventure as I strive for significant artistic goals. I faced challenges head-on, sticking to my creative process even when the world seemed against it. Along the way, I’ve learned firsthand the incredible impact art and creativity can have on mental well-being. Ultimately, my brand is about a woman expressing her story through a burst of colors, all while uplifting other POC women on the same journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
During a week in Atlanta with my best friend, we’d kick things off with art at the High Museum. After that, we’d take a relaxed walk along the BeltLine, enjoying colorful street art. To end the day, we’d have a tasty dinner at the well-known Miller Union, soaking in both the city’s culture and its delicious food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, my shoutout goes to the incredible individuals in my family who have been creative entrepreneurs and pioneers in their own right. Their unwavering support, mentorship, and trailblazing spirit have laid the foundation for my journey as an artist. Their collective influence has not only shaped my artistic perspective but has also fueled my passion to break new ground in the realm of digital portrait art, especially in highlighting the beauty and strength of POC women and diverse expressions of femininity.
