Meet Nevaeh McGuire | Author, Poet, and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nevaeh McGuire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nevaeh, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am pursuing a creative career because creativity is a gift that makes the world brighter. From tv shows to video games to music, it’s the ability to create that allows uniqueness to shine in an otherwise dull world. I don’t know what I’d do without music to listen to every day or what kids would do without cartoons to keep themselves entertained. I see these blessings and want to give back and add to the light with my own stories and worlds I’ve created. I’ve wanted to make people happy my whole life, and one of the best ways I found to do so was through entertainment. Furthermore, as I create, I find myself distracted and relieved from the grievances that come with day-to-day life, whether that be high expectations, condemnations, or even my own intrusive thoughts. Creating things has brought me so much joy that I can’t help but want to share it and allow it to help people in the same way that it has helped me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Unlike most well-known authors, I published my first book while I was still in middle school and plan to finish my first series by the time I graduate from high school. My youth gives me the unique opportunity to connect with my audience on a far more personal level, as I am closer in age with my readers. This makes it easier to appeal to them as well as makes me more approachable. On the topic of my audience, I am most excited about connecting with them and interacting with them in the near future, as the events of 2020 forced me to put those plans on hold. The past year was responsible for plenty of struggles, especially concerning reaching out to and finding my audience, but it was through the lockdowns that I was able to bring out some of my best works. It was through these trying times that I learned to help myself when the world was trying to bring me down. I learned that I will have moments when I am alone in my struggles, and it is important that I build myself up so that when my loved ones aren’t there, I can handle myself. The very reason I’ve made it this far is because of my own determination and perseverance. When I was writing my first book, nobody believed that I could; even my parents were surprised once they saw my commitment. I sacrificed my recess and lunch periods during school and even spent a majority of summer working on my writing, as I was determined to meet my set deadline of my thirteenth birthday. When I did, the accomplished feeling was something that I still hold onto when I’m writing, as it makes every mountain I come across worth it to climb. The tagline of my brand is “Love yourself, Create Art, Inspire Others.” With my business I want to promote self love, creativity, and spreading joy around us, whether it be for our own sake or for the sake of others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to go to has always been Stars and Strikes. While I’ve never been the best bowler, it also has an arcade, laser tag, and bumper cars. Another family fun location is Sparkles, as it has a playground, arcade, and laser tag for those who aren’t the best skaters. For more peaceful outings I would take them out to East Cobb Park where we could have a picnic or go to Olive Garden instead. We could also go to the Georgia Aquarium to kill some time, and if they’re playing, we could even catch a Hawks game.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Publisher Mrs. Terri Whitmire, owner of Lift2Enrich. I also have both of my parents, who are the reason any of this was even possible. Lastly, I have my childhood friend Sophie Lee, who from the very beginning made me believe I could be an author one day.
