We had the good fortune of connecting with Nedra Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nedra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up, I’ve always been fascinated by the beauty industry. From working as a shampoo assistant as my first job at age 15, to studying cosmetology in high school. As a young girl, whenever I would get my nails done, I was always intrigued by the process. I’d watch and ask questions about different products and would want to know the purpose of each one as they were being used. Fast forward to the last few years, that interest resurfaced and grew. I found myself being inspired by the black nail techs whose businesses I was a patron of. Their creativity and passion truly inspired me. That’s when I made the decision to enroll into a state-approved nail technology program. I wanted to turn my curiosity into an actual skill. I started researching products, purchased supplies, and even took additional hands-on courses from licensed instructors and nail techs to become more proficient. I slowly started taking clients and became even more motivated to pursue my newfound passion. Soon after I started promoting my business, I started getting inquiries about press-on nails. Initially, I would dismiss the idea, as I was still working towards perfecting acrylic nail enhancements. After much encouragement from friends and family (and being someone who likes to change my nail designs often and without hassle), my press-on brand, “Pressed” By N.Nicole was born! The feedback has been overwhelming in the best way, and ’m thankful for all of those who “pressed” me to add custom, hand-painted press-on nails and press-on toenails to my brand.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I provide a personable experience while using skills and education to promote healthy nail wear and care with ingenuity, innovation, and creativity. Acrylic nail enhancements and natural nail care are services that are currently offered. I also have a variety of unique, trendy, and reusable press-ons that are designed to fit your personal style available for purchase. With my press-ons, you can transform your nails for any occasion or even any mood in only a matter of minutes. As with any new business, there’s always going to be peaks and valleys. I’ve poured a lot of time and a LOT of money into my business. I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times I felt like I was in over my head. But thankfully, by the grace of God, and the support of friends and family, I remained undeterred, and I will continue to push forward.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places to visit is Las Costas Nayartias Mexican restaurant, located in Duluth. They have THE best cocktails and authentic Mexican seafood dishes. I would also recommend Eclipse Di Luna, located in Dunwoody! The ambiance and the calamari definitely makes this Spanish tapas bar one of my favorites! When I’m in the mood for some hibachi (which is almost always), Fumi Hibachi Sushi in Duluth is my go-to! When I want to relax or have a girls day out, Chateau Elan is a must! I’ve probably been there more than anywhere, honestly! The wine tasting and winery tour (along with the amazing scenery of the vineyard) always puts me in a good place.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My very first client was my younger sister, Shelby. She’s definitely keeps me on my toes with constructive criticism and new nail trends. She also keeps my business posts and announcements in rotation on her social media, which I am beyond grateful for. I guess we can call her my unofficial brand ambassador, lol.
