We had the good fortune of connecting with Nedra Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nedra, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has been prevalent from the very beginning. Leaving the world of Network of Engineering, seven years ago to pursue my passion of cake baking full time was the first big and unexpected risk. Through the process of leaving my career, starting a registered home bakery and now opening a store front location during a pandemic shows, that risk is necessary.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art of cake decorating is my superpower, LOL. I whole heartedly believe that the difference is made in the details. When I make cakes, I’m passionate about bringing my client’s ideas to life.

Baking cakes was something I fell into. I’m not a baker by trade, I’m a baker by trial and error. While working in I.T., I would design cakes for close family members and friends. The blessing was that people believed in me and as a result I became more confident.

Was it easy? Is this a trick question? LOL! We built our first external bakery location in the midst of a pandemic, during a time when so many businesses were suffering and some having to close indefinitely. We made the commitment that, even if it was challenging, we were determined to make Creations Galore and Moore a bakery.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to do in the metro Birmingham area and more specifically in Shelby County where we live and work. We love to have friends and family visit and when we do, we always start by showing off our little historic downtown where our business is located. Calera, Alabama became a “Main Street” city just two years ago and is being revitalized to become a destination for families to enjoy festivals, food, and shopping. It’s definitely a place to watch as new restaurants and an outdoor entertainment district develop in the coming months.

A good time for us is always centered around food and entertainment. We start by grabbing coffee from Adventurer’s Coffee Co. where they roast their own beans and offer every kind of coffee and smoothie you can imagine. Mama Cocoa’s has the best Mexican Queso and Street Tacos plus a fun bar for anyone who would like to enjoy one of their famous margaritas. Also, Calera is home to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum offering train rides every weekend, an historic train museum, and specials with our local Ozan Winery where you can enjoy a wine tasting and lunch then hop on the train for a beautiful ride through the woods and waterways.

We can’t let anyone leave without visiting the cutest local gift shop, Plant, Gifts and Décor. This spot reminds you of a Hallmark movie as you find something for everyone to take back a part of Calera with you. We also have ROE Hobby, a table-top gaming store where you can find a game for the whole family and have a cocktail or snacks at the bar too! Our pets even have an awesome shop dedicated just to them – Fuzzy Buttz Pet Supply!

After visiting Calera, we also like to take our friends to Montevallo and Columbiana, a couple of other quaint downtowns with more shopping and exploring options. It is always said that laughter is good for the soul and we love to laugh – so a visit to the Hoover Comedy Stardome is a must as well!

I could go on and on as we love our home and exploring and supporting local businesses and fellow entrepreneurs! Come on over for a visit soon!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
None of this would be possible without the help of God, He has provided me with vision and provision to use the gift he gave me to bring joy to others. He has surrounded me with a wonderful support system. One being my husband, Andre. With his support I was able to step out on faith and quit my full time job. I’m grateful for the continued support of my family, church family, and friends- To our bakery team for their hard-work and commitment to excellence and to our devoted customer’s for trusting us with their special occasions.
