We had the good fortune of connecting with Nazir Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nazir, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Before answering this question, I would like to state my definition of the terms habit and success. Through experience I’ve learned that a a habit can form naturally without an individual intending to acquire them, however, habits can be intentionally created to mold one’s transition to success. Success is a state of mind, if you do not truly understand what success is, obtaining it is impossible. Success is to living a life based on your own expectations and terms, not others. Formulating routines where I’ve consistently practiced self-discipline and accountability is how I’ve found myself achieving success. Think about self-discipline being the bridge between you and success. Having a sense of self-discipline ties into being accountable. You are the product of your choices. We make choices every single second of every single day. Being able to actively adjust my perspective throughout situations has been an advantageous habit for me. When I’m faced with adversity, regardless of which environment, whether that be in the business world, my social life, or even school, I use this to my advantage by being open to learning from it. I manage my expectations, acknowledge what isn’t permanent, the possible benefit(s), and the takeaway(s).
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently am a freshman at Georgia State University as a nursing student! Being a scholar really does take up most of my time. The Divine Shop is more than an online jewelry store. It is more than a bracelet. It is more than a waist bead. Not only do I specialize in accessories for men and women, but I’m a polymath when it comes to putting a person in a position to realize their worth and to thrive in their element. The DVN Shop’s intention is to make sure each and EVERY one of our customers understand and practices the concept of individuality. How being the best version of yourself and still having room for improvement is attainable. We live in a world where being you, the real you, the raw you, isn’t accepted. The DVN Shop is changing that. Towards the end of June, I developed a website for my business, and boy, was this hard. I never realized how intricate designing a website from scratch was. I spent at least 3 hours a day a week straight designing the website. Before creating the website, I held a photoshoot. I would say that this was probably one of the least difficult moments of my business. However, ensuring that each component of the shoot was executed correctly was a tad bit stressful. Fortunately, my best friend and father helped me with finding the best studio, photographer, makeup artists, outfits, and shoot themes! The biggest struggle that I faced during this process which sometimes reappears is the mental aspect of being an entrepreneur. Running into obstacles is inevitable. There are millions of things that could potentially go wrong but there are millions of things that can go right. Being able to have a sense of patience through each trial is what has helped me through each speed bump. Knowing that my competition is other people. It was my procrastination. My ego. My doubt. That is what I compete against.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many amazing spots to venture to in Atlanta! I would begin off each morning with going to breakfast spots. A few of my favorite breakfast spots in Atlanta are Le Petite Marche, Cafe Social House, Atlanta Breakfast Club, and Gocha’s Breakfast Bar. My favorite spot would definitely be Le Petite Marche! Le Petite March is a small black owned brunch restaurant that features market like dishes that are bomb! For mid day activities, I would take them to Ponce City Market, Atlantic Station, and the Georgia Aquarium. There is so much to do in Atlantic Station and Ponce City markets. We could shop, eat good food, and even play golf!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a HUGE shoutout to The Pure Group/Revealed Studios. For years now I’ve taken my creative visions and projects to this studio and they’ve always been executed effortlessly and beautifully. A special thanks is due to my friend group. Thank you all for endless support and participation on my journey! Last but certainly not least, I would like to shout out my father, Corey Hill, and my grandmother, Kathy Williams for wholeheartedly supporting me through my entrepreneurship journey. The appreciation for you all is endless.
