We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Hyche and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Originally, I went to school to become a teacher and had succeeded in becoming a teacher. However, when I had my daughter, I knew I wanted to be able to spend time with her and needed a career that allowed me to be flexible with my time. To be honest, before having her, I never thought about owning my business. Having my daughter brought out a new drive in me! I began to research day and night about entrepreneurship and what it takes. At the time, I was really into watching cookie decorating videos and decided custom cookies would be a great way to combine creativity, flexibility and revenue.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is the fact I took several art classes and my customer service. I wanted to be able to say that I’m the one behind the art of my custom cookies. I didn’t want a crutch-I needed to be authentic. I’m most proud of how I treat each customer. Customers are what makes me grow, so I make sure to give each one the attention they need. I would love to say it was easy to get where I am today, but it wasn’t. It took hard work and dedication. It took me having the confidence in myself to actually go out there and prove I deserved to be here. So many times at the beginning I wanted to give up because my phone wasn’t ringing or my inbox was crickets. The reason was because I wasn’t trying-being a business owner means going out and putting the work in. You can’t just sit back and think it’ll all come to you. I’ve learned to believe in my pricing, I don’t think people really know what goes into decorating. You have to make and freeze the dough, make the icing and then separate to make colors, then design the Cookie, then ice (some you have to do in layers), then wait for it to dry and then package. So many different components! I also learned that you can’t and won’t make everyone happy so you need to stay true to yourself and don’t give up on yourself. I want people to know that I truly love what I do and love each design I get. It allows me to be creative-and absolutely love that!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is so hard because there’s so many great places in the Roswell/Atlanta areas. I love downtown Historic Roswell. There’s alot of history and great places to eat. A couple of my favs in downtown Roswell are The Mill and Zest. Roswell and Kennesaw have some great trails to either bike or hike. The belt line is also a great place to take a friend because it’s a long walking trail where you can people watch and stop by several restaurants. The Battery is a must go as well because you can take in a game and go out to eat afterwards. It also has a fantastic night life in a casual setting! For a low key kind of day, I would see about going to a play like at Shakespeare Tavern or Fox. Such great theatres. I mean, seriously way to many great places out here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, my daughter, my friends and Roswell Moms Network! Wait, did I mention my husband?! When I told my husband what I wanted to do, he encouraged me to sign up for classes to learn to draw so I could bring artistry into baking. No matter how my cookies looked at the beginning, he constantly motivated me to not give up. Even today when I get overwhelmed, he’s there to encourage me, help package, bake, etc whenever I need him! My company is named after my amazing, intelligent and sassy daughter. Without her, this dream would not have even had evolved. Like her dad, she’s there to encourage me and help where she can. My friends have been there so much for me. At the beginning so many would find anyway to get my cookies out there. They would have have events or have their companies reach out to me. It was truly amazing! The Roswell Moms Network has been one of the most amazing groups out there! They continuously recommend me and encourage me-Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today! So thankful for the organizers and the amazing ladies that make up the Roswell Moms Network.
