We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Moreno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I have experienced my most genuine happiness while I’m in creative spaces. I enjoy getting to use creative problem solving and the mental and emotional stimulation that comes with it. Even if the pressure is high whether it be a deadline or carrying multiple projects I find that the stress becomes more of a challenge and motivator rather than a hinderance. It pushes me to problem solve in new ways and to think critically yet creatively. During my undergrad time at the University of West Georgia the studio spaces there, became a second home to me. There was something incredibly motivating about seeing everyone locked into their own personal creative flow. We were all working on such vastly different works but there was a shared energy that made the process even more meaningful. Being in that environment not only taught me to grow creatively but also how to be part of a creative community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the most exciting parts of being a creative is how freeing my work is for me. Studying sculpture in my undergrad program opened up my career options, giving me the space to develop transferable skills. As I continue my studio practice, my reach has now expanded creatively into the film industry.
Whether working on a production or welding sculptural installations, growing creatively in any practice inherently produces challenges like instability. I have learned to ground myself when I become overwhelmed with that struggle by remembering that I get to create and lead with my passion, that I am living my purpose everyday and get that opportunity.
I get to show up for myself while being an artist, I get to be the artist that I wish I could’ve seen more of as a child and through out my education. A lot of where my inspiration has come from has been my heritage and cultural upbringing as a Mexican- American. I’m proud that I can be my authentic self and share my experiences with the world and through my form of self expression.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For anyone visiting town, I recommend checking out the Atlanta Beltline. The Beltline has something for everyone whether you want to have a few drinks and a meal or go on a beautiful scenic walk. One of my favorite connects is going off to Ponce City Market and checkout the variety they offer in their food hall and THE ROOF which has a beautiful view outlooking the city. If you’re interested in seeing some art around Atlanta, the High Museum of Art is a great museum to check out. They always have great exhibitions going on and hold some amazing sculptures by one of my favorite artist, Louise Bourgeois. And of course I always recommend, one of my favorite places that I grew up going to the—the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the U.S.
