We had the good fortune of connecting with Narvie Madison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Narvie, what do you attribute your success to?
Authenticity is the most important factor. I am not pretending to be anything or anyone that I am not. If anything, my brand is a toned down version of myself. I think it will take more evolving and time for my brand to truly match my energy. In the past I would hear that I was “too much” and how I need to talk less, calm down, etc. I stopped listening to all of that and just began to create and social media is my outlet for this. I do not feel that my content is a carbon copy of anyone else’s. I recognize my uniqueness and quirkiness and am able to market effectively because of it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create digital content in order to battle my anxiety and depression. My main muse is my potbelly pig Pumba Sunflower. It is so amazing that what began as a hobby is now a brand that embodies happiness, love, and adventure. I was working on my MBA at UC Denver several years ago, when I learned about personal branding. I was intrigued by the concept and applied what I learned to my personal IG account. Fast forward to today and my IG @narviebarbie has 100K followers and my potbelly pig’s page @vanlifepiggy has almost 9K followers. I started this journey with little expectations and in time it has evolved into a way for me to collaborate with other brands, influencers, and media outlets. I am most proud of my collaboration with Bronze Hippie Lifestyle. I currently have a swimline on thier website and it is like a dream come true.
Also, I’m currently in the running to be on the cover of Maxim Magazine. So far I have survived two elimination rounds of the competition. No matter the outcome, I’m excited to see where this goes. It was not easy at all to get to this place. Losing everything and feeling empty nearly crushed me. Having an amazing support group and having people see my artistic potential brought me to where I am today. I have learned that life is never going to be easy and that’s ok. I have learned to only focus on what I can control. When I do that, beautiful things occur.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the vegan options the city has to offer. I would take them to Sunflower Cafe and Flower Child in Buckhead. I love to cook and eat at home. I would cook shrimp scampi and eggplant parmesan. I don’t really go out to bars to drink, so for drinks I would take them to a sports bar like Dantanna’s. I tend to gravitate towards outdoor activities. I would take them to Acworth Lake/Beach area. I would take them to Quickshot Shooting Range. I think Ponce City Market is also nice. Nice place to get food/drinks and shop. Normally I would take them to a concert or festival, but none of that really going on at this time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My late mother Flo Madison is my biggest inspiration and I owe everything to her. My sister DeVaughan, my cousin Bronze, my boyfriend Steve and my bestfriend Liz are the main people that keep me going. Losing my mom was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I know she is with me in spirit. The others I have named above have stepped in to help fill a hole in my heart that will never completely heal. I want to thank them so much for thier love and support. I was at such a low point in my life that I seriously did not know how I would get out of it. I know my angel Flo is guiding me and giving me strength.
