We had the good fortune of connecting with Naiguiiyi “Stone” Goode and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naiguiiyi “Stone”, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
“Succeed” like past tense? Ruminating about my mortality, life’s value, existence and experiences, and a long laundry list of sleep paralysis thoughts. Ruminating is a habit of mine that comes with highs and lows, and was probably manifested through trauma (lol…kinda). My thoughts on my existence inspire me to keep moving because one day I won’t be able to. There’s a sad countdown timer hanging on a wall in the back of my mind. I pull motivation from the timer, and motivation is the fuel for action, and action creates the movement. People-pleasing is another habit that I believe has been useful in my entrepreneurial growth. My willingness to be inconvenienced in order to make someone else happy has made fulfilling obligations, clear communication, and customer service second nature skills for me. I don’t wake up at 5 am. I exercise when I feel like it. I don’t meditate. I don’t have a book of gratitude. I’m too overwhelmed with thinking and pleasing to be consistent with those habits. I respect them though. I respect anyone doing anything because “doing” is very difficult. My habits are customized for me. I can’t suggest them to others. All I’ve been able to do was direct them toward a target where they have become beneficial for me and others. Thank you so much for this.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Work…bleh (jk. I teach biology…gen z is very cool) What I’ve learned in my career and through my entrepreneurial pursuits is that no one is inherently good at anything. You’re good at what you practice. You’re good at what you try to be good at. There are natural abilities that we all possess, but depending on only nature without nurture won’t maximize one’s potential. So that has always left me with a decision and holding a mirror in my hand. I have to look at myself and decide who will I be and what am I willing to give up to be that.
