We had the good fortune of connecting with Naieem Stokes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naieem, what’s your definition for success?
To me, success is defined as having the freedom to do what you enjoy at your own will. Being successful allows you to not have to trade your time for money. Your money is working for you while you enjoy quality time with the people you enjoy and love. Once you reach that stage in life, I feel you have become successful at the highest level.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I selected other because I work both in the corporate world as an engineer and in the creative world as an artist that enjoys sharing my art through different mediums. I got to where I am today professionally by first obtaining my bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and then utilizing my resources in securing an engineering role with one of the largest utility companies in the Southeastern United States. The journey was not easy at all but well worth it at the end. As a creative, my journey is different because it is a constant state of finding myself. One thing I appreciate about the journey in creativity is evolving to express my art in more ways than one. I don’t feel compelled to box myself into one lane. The biggest challenge with evolving creativity, though, is staying consistent and pulling myself out of creative blocks. Staying true to myself and maintaining a positive mindset has been the key to this. With that, anything is possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly if my friend was visiting I would probably take them to places I still need to try myself. I know I would take them to eat at Gumbeaux’s Cajun Cafe in Douglasville or Marcel in midtown though. As far as activities, I’m very laid back so we probably would hit the belt line or go to a sporting event.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my tribe that always supports me and encourages me to do what I enjoy. They provide me with consistent positivity along with honest criticism that contribute to my overall growth as a man and artist.
