We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadia Jay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nadia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are necessary in life. Without taking risks, you’ll never know what the outcome could be if you don’t try. Being a full-time college student, working a part time job, and starting my nail business involved lots of risks. Having to decide whether I would take a client and hold off on studying or figure out whether to purchase nail supplies or school supplies were just a few of the decisions I made. Overall, I can say that the risks I’ve taken has benefited me tremendously. I was able to pay for my last semester of college out of pocket just from the clients I took over a two-month period. Without me stepping out on faith and taking risks, I would’ve never been able to experience and cherish the moments that are now embedded in my journey. If anyone is out there contemplating on whether to embark on a new business venture or even wanting to try something new but is hesitant about it, I’d say go for it because you’ll know unless you try.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I recently graduated from Georgia State University in December with my bachelors in Business Administration. As of now, I am still working my part time job and being fully committed to my business. I am extremely proud of myself for accomplishing this milestone and having the courage to start a business. It wasn’t easy, but truly worth it. With so many obstacles that came my way with school and life itself, I could’ve given up at any moment, but pushing through and fighting for what I wanted made the journey worthwhile. My dad used to always tell me as a child that “anything worth having is worth working hard for.” With any future endeavor I encounter, I make sure to walk in the situation with that mindset and give it my all. As far as my career path goes, I am searching for a brand marketing manager job in the cosmetic or fashion industry. This was my passion and the reason why I went to school for marketing. As for my business, I will continue to build and grow my clientele and my brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My definite go to’s for eating is Osha Thai Sushi Galleria off Peachtree Road and Azotea Cantina at Atlantic Station. Both of these places have exceptional drink menus and good bites to eat. I especially love the ambiance of Osha. The decor is beautiful and adds a nice touch for pictures. As far as things to do, if the weather is good I would either walk or ride a bike on the BeltLine. The scenery is amazing and a nice place to catch up with friends. Im a lover of art as well, so the High Museum is a great place to relax and enjoy art from all over the world. They’re are multiple exhibits that are hosted during the month, which allows for a wide range of art to be showcased.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my friend, Erin, who asked me to take a nail class with her. Without her pushing me to get the experience to do nails, I’m not sure how long it would’ve been before I decided to jumpstart my journey. Sometimes in life, there are people who can see your fullest potential even when you don’t see it yourself. Whenever I needed advice on how to do something or simply some words of encouragement, she is always there. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have her in my life and her genuine support.
