We had the good fortune of connecting with Mystik Rayne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mystik, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
After years of trauma (both childhood and adult),battling both mental health issues and addiction; which led to a 2 year span of homelessness, and almost completely losing myself…. Being creative was how I coped with everything. I had been a child model/performer and back then to be honest I hated it. (I think because then it wasn’t a way of expressing myself, but instead used as a social standing type thing.) Anyway, after my entire life crumbled around me and I left everything I knew in NC and moved here to GA I started writing poetry and drawing as an escape. Then, just over 2 years ago, I decided to start modeling again after a friend asked me to attend a photoshoot with her and I realized that it was an awesome way to express myself. It has become a tool for me to find my true self and to be able to express anything in my own creative way. Not only that but I started to see the positive impact I could make on others who may be struggling in the ways I have struggled and meet some amazing individuals.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say the thing that sets me apart from all the others in both modeling and art in generalis my love and passion for what I do. I feel like this is how I will leave my mark on the world. This is how I’m going to make a difference. I’ve only gotten this far with my modeling because of that passion and determination. I’m not as tall as your typical model, but with determination and love for modeling I can say I’ve been signed by Twisted Angels, in advertisements for Lido Deck Tees, Kandi Kid Creations and Pray brand( the last 2 are locally based businesses), in music videos for local artist French Jae and country music artist Lee Newton, walked in Wake up the City runway show, was featured in the 2023 Beanie Bunny calander as February’s Bunny of the month(and appeared in other months as well), internationally published, made multiple covers in magazines, grown my following, opened my online Merch storefront www.catchamystikvibe.fans. My art I haven’t pursued as hard or as often but I have had success with it as well when I do. I won’t day it’s been easy with either. My biggest challenge is just getting out of my own head. I battle with mental health so I often doubt myself. Other challenges with modeling are my height and age, but I just can’t allow any of that to hold me back. I mean sure you’re gonna get turned down sometimes but you don’t stop there, you keep pushing forward because with every no there’s at least 1 yes ahead for you. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is attitude goes a long way, and so does communication. Others within the industry are watching even when you don’t think it. Be authentic, that’s probably the biggest advice I can give. Don’t be ashamed of your story. And go after your dreams. I mean after all 6 years ago I was a homeless addict who had lost everything including her own children. But God still knew exactly what I was meant to be, even when I had forgotten. Never give up because no matter what your past may have to say, your future can be any thing you want as long as your willing to go after it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had someone visiting I would definitely have a few things that I’d like to make sure I took them to experience. I would have to make sure we ate at some of my favorite restaurants; Dari Spot in Gainesville, El Cancun Mexican restaurant in Murrayville, Culver’s in Gainesville, and Reid’s in Murrayville. I’d definitely have to take them to meet my friends and shop for 99 cent Monday at the Goodwill of Dawsonville, and show them some of my other absolute favorite places to shoot; The School bus Graveyard, The Hell Hole, Wash yer Duds, Sardis Creek Park, Linwood Nature Preserve, Elegant Life Boudoir, and Lake Lanier. I would also love to show them the town of Helen Woody’s Store in Dawsonville, and Dawson Forest. Hopefully the rest of the time would be used to just catch up and enjoy spending time riding motorcycles, laying in the hammock enjoying the beautiful weather there are have and reminiscing about the “good ol days” around a bonfire.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh I can’t choose just one. There are so many really but I will give you my top 10, hopefully that’s okay. 1. Brittany Stevens- she is a fellow model and the reason I jumped back into the industry
2. William C Goss-he was the first photographer I booked with and I’ve worked with him a few times after. I will be forever grateful to this man.
3. Twisted Angels- the agency in signed with. Mike and his team are amazing and help thier models any way they can
4. French Jae this talented up and coming music artist has featured me in 2
