We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykerria Alston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mykerria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
During the shutdown, I watched a lot of YouTube. I saw many young people starting their own business and that inspired me to start my own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is called M.A.’s Collections. I sell lip-gloss, lip scrub and I recently added educational learning boards. My business is different from others because, I am not just in business for profit. It is not unusual to find M.A.’s Collections out helping in my local community. I am very proud of how my business has grown from a dream to a reality. My supporters are the reason I am where I am today. However, I still had challenges. Our style at M.A.’s Collections is so unique, we always had to watch out for people imitating the brand and using our social media pictures. I overcame this challenge by researching how to watermark all of my pictures. Other challenges have been money, I’m only 15 so I am not able to work for the start up cost of a business. Nonetheless my mother has always taught me to trust GOD. GOD placed the right people in our path to invest in my business. One important lesson I have learned along the way in this business is to never give up, you just have to keep going. One thing I want the world to know about my brand is that everything we do is because of GOD. With him nothing is impossible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend and I were to visit Atlanta we would definitely eat at Pappadeaux seafood, and the Slutty Vegan. We would also definitely hit up six flags and White Water! Although I’m terrified of roller coasters.lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One business that deserves a little credit is SWAT Foundation. It is a business ran by my mother.
