Meet Muriel Sackey-Quaye | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Muriel Sackey-Quaye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Muriel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a designer, it’s been something of a mission for me to infuse African-inspired decorative pieces, art and artifacts into interior design decor. Up until now, those decorative roots have been mostly missing from the home decor industry. My goal is to create luxurious settings that bring alive a unique but harmonious blend of European and African influences.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Ans: Being born and raised in Accra, Ghana, my heritage has always been a big part of my overall design approach for my collection. With our wallpaper collection for example, our figurative designs literally tell a story of the day to day lifestyle within the sub-Saharan region. We are delighted to share our distinct culture through art and decorative accessories for any interior.
Being an interior designer I always look forward to the day that African inspired decorative pieces can easily be adapted globally into most interior design project be it residential, commercial or hospitality. This has been my passion and hence what gives me the drive to keep doing what I love to do in my career and business.
Embrace is a brand that focuses on adapting the use of African inspired decorative pieces into any interiors and sensibilities. This approach draws on a variety of influences, and opens up a world of fresh, creative possibilities. To me, a harmonious, layered mix of furnishings is what makes this approach work. This includes placing decorative accessories from around the globe against the canvas of any interior style.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a resident of the Buckhead area in Atlanta, there are lots of exciting things to do within the stylish and lively Lenox neighborhood. As part of our weekend long list of activities, we will catch a show at the Cadence Bank amphitheater. We will visit Chastain park, the epic center for music lovers, hopefully we will be able to attend a concert or performance by our favorite R & B artist. There is no way one can visit Atlanta without eating at any of the upscale restaurants. From Italian to Thai to Brazilian steak house you name it. We will dine at Le Bilboquet Atlanta for a taste of fine French cuisine and wine. Shopping is a must from Lenox Mall to Phipps Plaza to Buckhead Village District.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
