We had the good fortune of connecting with M’rcedes Dioné and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi M’rcedes Dioné, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My story isn’t the most conventional one when it comes to the beauty industry. In 2013 I lost my second son and before then I had never even considered makeup. But it’s exactly what picked me up out of the pits of depression. I began to get up every day and do my eyebrows before long I would have people asking me who did them. I then started dabbling in eyeshadow and foundation before long I was doing full faces and had never taken one class or watched a youtube video. I literally just did what felt good.

In 2015, I started taking clients, not even knowing how far this was going to take me. Most people dream of starting their businesses, I feel like my business came looking for me. After doing this for YEARS while working a corporate job I finally decided to bet on myself in 2020 during the pandemic and I have not turned back since.

So, my thought process for starting my business? I was pushed into this life lol

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a makeup artist. It is so much more than makeup to me though. My mission and goal is to ensure that women love themselves from the inside out. It doesn’t matter how much makeup you put on, if you don’t love yourself fully you’ll always point out your flaws(and we ALL have flaws). I want us to love ourselves flaws and all and I’m not just talking about physical flaws. It took me years to get to where I am now in my artistry and no it was not easy at all. But I’ve always seen the bigger picture so even in the moments when I wanted to give up I just couldn’t. There have been many lessons learned along the way but my biggest lesson: If it’s not alright, it’s not the end. Keep Going!!!

I want the world to know that I am going to uplift, affirm and pour into as many women as possible as long as I have breath in my body. It’s bigger than makeup. I want to build a community of confident women!!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jacob Alan Jones- My Angel Baby It is truly because of his short life with us that I even realized the gift that was always in these hands of mine.
Also my 2 living sons Jeremias & Dylan: They are the fire that keeps me going daily. I want to be able to leave generational wealth to them and their children one day.
