We had the good fortune of connecting with Moriah Knott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moriah, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
As a baker, most people’s goals is a storefront bakery of some kind. I am no different. I aspire to have a storefront in multiple cities and establish a brand that people know and trust. When people purchase my products I want them to feel excited in knowing that it will be beautiful and delicious. I would also like to create a new way of purchasing cakes and other baker goods such as cake ATM’s and Vending Machines. Overall my end goal is a solid baking brand that becomes a household name.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a baker is not the easiest thing. When you start your own business, it is hard doing everything on your own. With a baking business you are the only one person that creates the products which can become overwhelming. I’ve had to learn how to manage everything that comes with having your own business. Planning is essential, when you are able to plan and manage your time efficiently, it allows for a clear mind which helps you create the best products. I’ve had to learn the hard way that when you do not manage your time, your products can be affected. It’s taken a lot of work to build my brand and establish myself as a baker. I am constantly working on perfecting my craft. I am now working on becoming a Pastry Chef. It’s exciting to know I’m going to be able to elevate my skills. I enjoy mixing modern and traditional baking styles and deserts to create something beautiful. I am extremely proud of the growth of my business within a year and am excited to see how far I will be able to take it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend is a writer and an artist. Some fun places I would take her would be: The High Museum, Candytopia, MODA, and the Atlanta Selfie Museum.

She would also love to go to any bookstore but her favorite is Second and Charles.

For food we would go to the rooftop restaurant at Ponce City Market for a nice brunch, we would go to The Fat Crab for dinner because she adores all things seafood. We would also go to Original House of Pancakes because she loves their omelettes.

She not too fond of the night life but she lives going to LIPS to see the drag shows.

I love going to midtown, I enjoy walking around the city, meeting people, and I love going to IKEA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends have been the best support system anyone can ask for. My sister Monique is always helping me develop new ideas and flavors. My best friend Nikolette is not only my taste tester, she is also my co-baker when needed. My mother Tywanah is everything wrapped in one package, taste tester, co-baker, emotional support, everything. Nikolette’s mother Mrs. Washington is always looking for events for me as well as always trying to get my brand noticed and gives me fresh ideas. Finally, my sister Brianna who is my graphic designer and marketing specialist, she has created every part of my branding and is always giving my brand a stylish and professional look. Without these people behind me, there would be no Moriah’s Makings.
