We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Mason and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to create a product that can help women achieve their waist goals. I began my fitness journey as a junior in high school. I looked forward to my workouts everyday and this routine helped me establish discipline and a healthy active lifestyle. I then became very interested in nutrition and fitness enhancement products. I bought my first waist sweat belt from Walmart and I LOVED how it made me sweat. After that, I tried almost every waist slimming belt on the market but I could never find the perfect one because they would either wear out too quick or be extremely uncomfortable. That’s when I came up with the idea to create my own waist snatcher that I loved. I spent two years designing and testing different belts. I wanted to create something that completely covers your mid section and provides comfort. After trial and error, I now have the Mormad Fitness Waist Snatcher. It’s great for exercising, Sunday cleaning around the house, or running errands. It’s very comfortable and makes it easier for women to achieve their waist goals.

I got to where I am today in business by working hard. As cliche as it sounds, it’s the truth. I truly believe you have to put in work to get what you want, there is no shortcut to success. I believe that God rewards hard work, consistency, and commitment. Starting a business is not easy. You have to be willing to figure things out on your own and accept the fact that you will make mistakes. The best part about making mistakes is you get the opportunity to learn from them and do things different. I overcame a lot of challenges by never giving up. No matter how many times I’ve messed up I just keep trying until I get it right.

Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are:
1. Believe in your product/service. Be your own best marketer!
2. Do not rely on other people’s opinions to make decisions for your business, Everybody does not have the same vision for your business so you cannot expect other people to make decisions for you.
3. Research EVERYTHING! Whether is a new product you’re interested in or a class you want to take to enhance your skills, do your research. It’s important to be knowledgeable about the products you sell.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in town for a good time we would definitely have to stop by a few of my favorite places in Birmingham. We would get lunch at Makarios, it’s the best Mediterranean restaurant EVER! Great drinks and live music at The 88 Birmingham, the vibes are immaculate and the drinks are to die for. My favorite drink is the Ray Charles! After that we would go to Hush Lounge to turn up, the vibe is unmatched! Sunday we would go get nails done and do some retail therapy at Pinkie’s. closet and Nordstrom Rack. This is what you call a weekend well spent!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I have to thank God for giving me creativity, discipline, and unwavering work ethic. Then I give credit to my mom, dad, sister, and my family as they have been very supportive during my journey of entrepreneurship. It’s great to have a support system that believes in you when you have such big goals. My friends and family keep me going, they have supported me from the very beginning. I spend time reading personal growth and business development to sharpen my skills and become a better person. If I had to recommend one book for everyone to read, it would be The Four Agreements. I listen to Eric Thomas for motivation and mindset growth, his dedication and work ethic inspires me to work harder. Lastly, I listen to Lil Baby everyday for motivation. His music lights a fire in me and makes me want to work harder than ever before, his work ethic is impeccable and truly inspiring. Find something that motivates you and stick with that!
