We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Chavis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
In my work as the CEO of Lusso Gives Corp. my mission is to strengthen the community of Hampton Roads. I am committed to building economic and educational foundations in the area. Through mentorship and financial support, Lusso Gives also invests in the professional development of those in the beauty industry. One of the most notable contributions Lusso Gives has made is through the Lusso School Drive. Each year, I leverage my business to donate thousands of dollars’ worth of supplies to neighboring schools. This initiative not only demonstrates her commitment to education but also ensures that students have the necessary resources to succeed. By supporting local schools, we are investing in the future of her community and empowering the next generation.
Another impactful program organized by Lusso Gives is the annual Giving Tree. This heartwarming initiative has made the holidays special for numerous families. By providing gifts and necessities to those in need, Lusso Gives brings joy and hope during a time that can be particularly challenging for some. These efforts have undoubtedly made a lasting positive impact on the lives of many individuals and families.
Recognizing the importance of Alzheimer’s research and support, Lusso Gives annually participates in drives and fundraisers for this cause. By raising awareness and contributing to the funding of research efforts, she actively helps in the fight against this devastating disease. Lusso Gives’ dedication to making a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s is truly inspiring.
In addition to her philanthropic work, The Lusso Brand offers mentorship to a number of leaders and entrepreneurs. By sharing her knowledge, experience, and insights, I empower individuals to strive for success in their own ventures. The Lusso Brand’s mentorship exemplifies her commitment to seeing others succeed and her belief in the power of collaboration and support.
Furthermore, I have authored a book, “Leap Off the Ladder” about gaining the courage to start one’s own business. Through my personal experiences and expertise, I provide invaluable guidance and encouragement to aspiring entrepreneurs. “Leap Off the Ladder” is a testament to my passion for empowering others and helping them achieve their dreams, as I understand the challenges and fears that can hinder someone from taking the leap into entrepreneurship.
Overall, giving back to the community is a passion of mine. I feel it is the responsibility of all business owners to sow whatever seed, no matter how small, in to the communities in which they thrive.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Lusso Brand offers an individualized, one on one approach to business coaching building through a framework focused on creating scalable processes from infancy. Being a business coach came from a passion of helping other business owners solve problems I found myself stumble through in the development of my businesses, Lusso Salon and Lusso Suites. Becoming a coach began with a long journey of entrepreneurial trials and successes earning me the experience needed to mentor others. It was not easy growing a business from scratch and it’s true when they say it is not for the faint of heart. There were many days I found myself looking for other business owners to vent my frustrations or to brainstorm ideas. I realized very early in my own entrepreneurial journey the value of a network, supporter and coach in this space. I overcame challenges I faced in business through the support of those around me. It is not a given that everyone will automatically have that support which is what inspired the inception of The Lusso Brand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I can relate to this question well because I am not native to Hampton Roads. I was born and raised in Detroit and my family visit me in Virginia often. I would not be here in VA if not for the BEST HBCU on the planet, Hampton University. The campus boasts beautiful seaside, waterfront views and a host of historic landmarks. I would start a tour of what is important to me in Virginia at my “Home by the Sea”. I am also a foodie! I love any place with good food, good music- even better if it’s live music- and a decent cocktail menu. While showing my friends around I would take them to a couple of my favorite stops: Fin and Tonic in Suffolk, VA being one, know for their artistically crafted menu and creative drinks. Those who know me also know I love to be pampered. One of my favorite Virginia gems is the Seahill Spa located at the Caviler Resort in Virginia Beach. It is like a little slice of “vacation bliss” right here at home.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
At the age of 13 I began working at Megan Mitchell Hair Salon in Detroit, MI. Megan took me in as a mentor and was one of my first introductions to how business works. She gave me the experience I needed to start a successful career in the beauty industry. She trusted me to be reliable, have great customer service and to represent her brand in a positive and mature way at a young age. This opportunity stuck with me for the duration of my career. I remember her transparency about business and what it meant to be resilient. We would focus on concepts on inventory management, changing with trends and maintaining a staff. These lessons were able to keep with me as I matriculated through my career.
This experience left a lasting impression on me. I make my best effort in my career to encourage an environment of chances, grace and constant learning.
