We had the good fortune of connecting with Monte Applewhite and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monte, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was at a brunch party in downtown Atlanta when I noticed the lack of engagement between people throughout the venue. It just seemed like everyone was on their phones, taking pictures for their social media, however, not actually having fun, meeting new people, or engaging with each other.
The next day, I was grocery shopping in my North Carolina A&T football jersey and someone screamed “AGGIE PRIDE” to me. I realized, at that moment, if somehow we knew the interests we shared with the people around us, then it would facilitate engagement.
Everyday there are new connections with similar interests to make all around us. Our vision is for GoSayHELLO to be the perfect platform that allows users to discover, engage, and connect with other users and businesses with similar interests in their current location: at the park, local bar, grocery store, shopping mall, or a festival.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
GoSayHELLO mission is to be the #1 utility for in-person engagement by connecting users in close vicinity with similar interests. Our vision is to be a localized community building platform by connecting the right people in the right place at the right time.
Also, our platform will be a utility for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and event promoters to highlight their businesses and events with users already within close proximity nearby (based on GPS positioning).
What we want the world to know most about our brand is that we plan to bring back togetherness in the community post-COVID. This includes addressing income equality in the poorest cities and communities around the world.
What sets GoSayHELLO a part is that in the future we will incentivize users for performing engaging activities on our platform using our assets developed on the Algorand blockchain.
We are excited about our partnership with the Algorand Foundation, one of the top 20 blockchains in the world. In addition, we were able to share our vision for GoSayHELLO with the Scott Stornetta, Co-developer, of the early blockchain referenced by Satoshi in his Bitcoin white-paper.
We understand nothing comes easy but we have strategic plans in place and will continue to enjoy the journey and all the lessons that come with it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Many of my family and friends know when that come to visit me that I’m taking them to my favorite brunch restaurant, Poor Calvins.
When I first moved to Atlanta, I lived right next to this place. It’s definitely my go to whenever I need good vibes and great food. Shoutout to James and Calvin!
If there’s an Atlanta Hawks game that week, we are sure to be in attendance. I’ve been a season ticket holder for the past few years and they’ve been playing amazing basketball. Go Hawks!
For an evening dinner, we’re headed to Chops Lobster Bar. This place has the best Crab Cake and Lobster Bites, They also make an awesome dirty martini. They also have both of my favorite wines; Caymus and Austin Hope.
If my family and friends want a chill vibe, we will go to Cam Newton’s cigar lounge, Fellaship, or Red Booth Downtown.
And if they want more great vibes, we will cap off the night at one of new faves, Blue Martini in Buckhead.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have received so much support, love, and encouragement from friends and family that I would literally be remised not to include everyone that is part of my journey.
First, I want to shoutout my beautiful 3 year old daughter, Cali Skye Applewhite. You are so loving, smart, and creative. I hope I inspire you to dream big. Define yourself. Do not let anyone define you. You are a unique expression of all there is, all there was, and all there ever will be.
I want to shoutout my pops, the late great Handy Applewhite. He was the first Aggie I ever met and was the reason I attended NC A&T. He was so happy to see me graduate from NC A&T and finish what he started. My dad was the definition of hard work, dedication, and unselfishness.
Also, I want to shoutout my mother, Michele Moore. I realize the sacrifices that it took to put her dreams aside to raise me. She’s always been the person I call when times are tough. I’m so thankful both of my grandmothers were able to help raise me as well. My grandmother Diann taught me how to spell my name and everything she knew about God and the power of prayer. She reminds me to attend church every Sunday via text.
Next, I want to shoutout my grandfather, Dr. Odell Moore. I could never thank him enough for leading by example and showing me the value of being a life-long learner. Watching him build a successful family business and give back through community organizations taught me about the importance of principled-entrepreneurship and servant leadership.
Finally, I want to shoutout to my GoSayHELLO family: Michele Moore, Calvin Reddick, Ty Rawls, Lauren Davis, Christina Tyer, Cedric Rasberry, Melinda Coley, Antonio Battles, Aaron Moore, Tiaye’ Wooten, Earnett Adams Jr., Aaminah Ishmael, Wilkon Jackson, Raymond Jordan, Datreon Lindsey, Donavon Goodwin, Shelly Dianne Garcia, James Hampton, Emily Russell, Milissa Barton, Isaiah Barton, Travanna Clark, Kenny Benton, Michael Womack, Nyeshia Aldridge, and Dwayne Applewhite.
I’m blessed to have such a strong circle.
God is Great!
