We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Valentine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My initial thoughts, when starting my business were to begin with something that I have always had a true passion for, wholeheartedly. I also thought about the current market ratio at that time and if there was an effective demand for baked goods in my community. Then I began to outline what I wanted my business to look like. I did research, to see what other similar businesses were offering and aimed to angle my business where there was a shortage.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the owner, of a small business bakery. Specializing  in creating custom desserts for everyone based on there specific needs. The uniqueness of my bakery business is, I allow my clients to explore different dessert flavors and options that other bakeries don’t offer. I think, I owe my success to being dedicated to my craft and having a healthy mindset. Being able to remind myself that there will always be someone doing something similar but, every persons craft belongs to them was always important to me. It’s also important to remember that jobs can be lost and careers can end, but your craft and experiences are with you for a lifetime.

I would like the world to know, that I enjoy providing baked goods for everyone and I am dedicated to making each persons sweet treats unique as well as establishing a great rapport with each and every person I am able to provide a service to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend hasn’t visited yet but, when she does we will go to the underground. I also would like her to experience the garden room and Nana’s Chicken and Waffle. Mainly,  a bunch of food places since we both love food. We  would most definitely go the the selfie museum and skating since that is something we have always done since 7th grade.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am thankful for my relationship with Molly Hopkins she is one of my biggest supporters and always encourages me to stay the course with my personal career choices and family life goals. She has truly been instrumental in helping me build relationships with other entrepreneurs and developing a strong business management perspective as a whole. I am also grateful for my children who are also my main support system.
