Meet Monique Shackleford | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Shackleford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monique, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since a teenager I’ve loved the idea of starting a business and being my own boss. It wasn’t until my second baby girl was born with a rare disorder and needed me by her side throughout the day that I turned my ideas into actions. My job did not care if my daughter was sick or if she had physical therapy so I used my passion to create a job for myself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Beauty Elementz Cosmetics is an inclusive brand that is know for its highly pigmented products. From my experience being a woman with brown skin it is difficult to find shades of eyeshadow and lipsticks that truly pop on my skin. Our rich and smooth pigments set us apart from many big brands.
Starting Beauty Elementz Cosmetics was not easy. We spent a lot of money quality checking samples and perfecting our formula. It was well
Worth it in the end, to have a product I can stand proudly behind. It’s amazing getting all the great feedback and knowing that this is something I created.
To anyone looking to start a business I believe you only need two things: Motivation and passion. Being able to be home to care for my disabled child is my motivation and making people feel beautiful is my passion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s currently Christmas season so I would love to take them to Stone Mountain to see the lights and parades. One of the first places I’ve ever visited in Atlanta was the aquarium. This is where I went on my first date with my husband. It’s a really stunning place if you enjoy nature like me. I’d also take them to the sky view and the MLK tour. When it’s time to eat I’d take them to Old Lady Gang.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my 5 beautiful children. I am blessed to be able to work from home and raise them 24 hours a day. I’d also like to thank my husband who has pushed me and supported me through this journey.
