We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Bazemore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
You should do more of what you love, and for me that means pursuing any avenue that allows me to create. I grew up surrounded by family who appreciate the arts- music and dance especially, and I feel that is what began the journey towards a creative path. As an adolescent I played competitive soccer, which is one of the most creative sports out there. I learned that I love being a leader who could create opportunities for my teammates, and I also learned that I enjoyed seeing our hard work and hours spent training turn into wins!
My next chapter was to focus on pursuing my other passion, which is to dance. I had the honor of dancing in the inaugural year for The Emotions Dance Company in Winter Park, Florida. Creating and expressing through dance is a lifelong relationship for me. Both soccer and dance were my entry into discovering the intense joy for creating and performing. I now create videos that share what has always been one of my favorite past times, which is “thrifting” and along with that crafting and creating with the items I find. This new path has been challenging but equally rewarding. I feel that when your creative fire has been lit, it’s important to keep it alive!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets anyone apart and what they create is their own experience and bringing that into their art, It’s taken me years to own, but I don’t always like what everyone else seems to like, so showcasing that more often has been a facet of this creative journey.

I am most proud of getting started. A little story about me: I used to love making cards for people, using my hands and creating something from nothing was fun and gave me chance to be crafty, which has always been a love. At the time I was also starting to really enjoy following people on YouTube, so I thought it might be cool to start a channel that showed me making all of these cards. Well, I thought about that in 2012, and ten years later I decide to finally get started! Time will pass whether you do something or not, so making the decision to finally start that channel a couple of years ago has been an excellent lesson on wasting time and not giving up on a dream. While I don’t make cards on my channel, I do get to use many skills that I didn’t even know I had and I get to continually flex my creativity.

I want people to feel inspired when they watch my channel, because if they feel inspired they may find a reason to get started with an idea and the cycle can continue!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to an Atlanta United game for an exciting day at the Mercedes Benz stadium. Another day would be spent checking out nature trails, the Roswell Mill, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, or take a drive over to Arabia Mountain. We could also spend a day driving around Atlanta, taking pictures of the architecture and murals found around the city (one of my husband and my favorite things to do). We would have margarita’s and eat at 7 Tequila’s in Holly Springs one night, and another night eat at Stockyard Burgers and Bones in Marietta Square. Speaking of the Square, we could also chill at Johnnie MacCracken’s or see my brother-in-law perform with The Georgia Player’s Guild at The Strand Theatre. We would definitely wrap up the week with a night out dancing! Rest in peace to The Music Room, my go-to for dancing the night away. Where should we go for a similar dance spot? I know you all can help me out!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to God, the number one in everything! The next Shoutout is for my amazing husband, as making videos with two small children would not happen without his help. My husband also creates videos and is the perfect partner for sharing creative visions, and we encourage each other to pursue our passions. I also want to give a Shoutout to my parents. Each have shown me the most unconditional love and support that a girl could ask for, along with teaching me invaluable skills like tenacity and perseverance. My sister Sophia is a true artist (@sophi_dani_yochi) and has always been my number one fan, cheering me on and showing me love when I’ve needed it the most. Shoutout to my littlest sisters as well, who used to literally cheer for me when I would enter the door- that’s the kind of love you never forget and it fuels me to this day.
