We had the good fortune of connecting with Monesia Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monesia, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was finally doing something that genuinely brings me joy, no matter how long the process is or how much income it brings in.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
10.05Art fits in the urban/street style scene. I’m influenced by street art and “made up” characters. I draw what I would like to see or what I think fits in the urban culture.

I’m mostly proud of my growth as an artist and getting to a point of working with other people and they actually trust what I bring to the table.

I got where I am today by being as consistent as possible with creating and making small goals for myself. It was not easy and I wanted to give up numerous times. Honestly those times I wanted to give up were those moments I thought I needed a larger audience or I thought I needed to work with a certain amount of clients to really be taken serious. So I can say, the hardest part was not wanting and caring for the validation from others.

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned so far is to be authentic and be you. Don’t conform to what other artists are doing exactly.. yes inspiration is needed but Don’t be afraid to add your own uniqueness. There are a million other artists out there with the same skill as me but no one has my imagination.

I want the world to know that I’m a dope creative aiding in bringing visions to life. I don’t have to be the highlight of something major, being behind the scenes is enough for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly this is not a good question for me lol. I don’t really do much in my free time, not enough to plan for a week. I guess I should probably start venturing out more lol. But I would definitely go enjoy some good eats, find something artsy to do – maybe Spin Art, and the rest is whatever comes to mind. Fun fact: I am the worst at planning.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to grandmother. She has supported my creative side since I was a child. She actually wanted me to go to school for art but I chose a different major of course. She’s one of those that’ll go purchase the art supplies for me without even asking. She keeps me going for sure.
