We had the good fortune of connecting with Mona Harry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mona, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have enjoyed creative writing since I was 13 years old and dreamed of one day becoming a published author. I never thought of being a published author as owning my own business. But with the process of promoting my book, Rhythms for the Soul, and with a second book soon to be published I now see myself as a black owned business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creative writings are biblically based. The vision and goal of my writings is to encourage readers and teach the word of God. My main focus of writing is in the area of poetry. What sets my writings apart from others is that I take scriptures from the bible and transformed them into poetry. I am proud of the words God gave me to share with others and I get excited when people who have read my book tell me how much of a blessing it has been to them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a resident of Charlotte, NC and a Carolina Panthers fan. Our stadium, Bank of America, is located uptown Charlotte. Charlotte’s uptown area is beautiful, and the city has a lot to offer; from an awesome amusement park, Carowinds to an awesome whitewater park, US National Whitewater Center. We have fine original restaurants like Freshwater’s and Midnight Diner. Charlotte is also the home of the Billy Graham Museum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out first goes to my mom, Louise Goodman, who sacrificed much and poured knowledge and wisdom into the woman I am today. To my late grandparents both maternal and paternal. I would also like to send a shout out to my late mother-in-law, Pearl Harry, who taught me the meaning of forgiveness. More shout outs belong to my family and my church family, especially my pastor and first lady, Pastor Vincent and Lydia Riley.

I would like to send a shoutout to my husband Pomanda Harry and my children, Amanda and William Harry for all their support with promoting my book.
