We had the good fortune of connecting with Mona B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mona, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Habits that have helped me succeed are, being determined, and focused. By nature I’m a creature of habit, once I put my mind to something I won’t give up until I succeed at it. It becomes apart of my daily routine. Being determined has carried me a very long way, no matter how hard things may get I don’t give up. Even when I’m struggling I try to stay focused because I know there will be light at the end of tunnel and the reward is going to be so sweet. These two habits have also built my character, being an entrepreneur requires a lot of self motivation and focus. I’m human so sometimes I get discourage and want to quit but I always think about how far being determined and focused have gotten me. They’ve never steered me wrong!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a social media Influencer on YouTube specializing in Natural Hair & Fashion. My channel sits at over 100K subcribers(MB Crew Members) and over 11 million channel views. I make videos to show women how to style their afro textured hair. What sets me apart from others is truly being my authentic self, I don’t conform to society standards. I have a really unique and innovated way of styling natural hair. My tutorials are straight to the point and easy to follow. I’m proud that I’ve been able to inspire so many women all over the world and I’ve worked with countless companies. I’m excited that the women that follow me are embracing themselves, and becoming more confident rocking their natural hair. Hard work and dedication is how I got to where I am today. People would always ask me about my style and would suggest that I start making videos about it. I knew if I started there had to be a purpose behind the videos. My mission is to teach women how to be confident and to embrace themselves. It hasn’t always been easy, but what helps me overcome the challenges is knowing that my platform is bigger than me. It serves a larger purpose so that’s how I’m able to keep pushing as well. Some lessons that I’ve learned along the way are, not every thing goes as planned and thats ok. Sometimes I may have to go back to the drawing board and rework some things. That doesn’t mean I failed its apart of the journey. I want the world to know that my brand is all about uplifting black women and embracing what God gave us. I want all women to feel comfortable loving and being themselves.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends come to visit me my favorite places to take them for food are Nana Chicken & Waffles, Slutty Vegan, and Mangos Caribbean. For drinks TEN ATL, Suite Food Lounge, and Cirque Daiquiri Bar. Places I would take them to hang out would be Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Site, Atlanta Beltline, and Little Five Points just to name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom has always been a huge support of my career! She’s always a listening ear. Whenever I need advice she’s present to help, motivate, and also remind me how far I’ve come. She encourages me to chase my dreams and to never give up. Whenever I feel defeated she always says “Life is hard, but God is good” so keep going!! I’m very thankful for her being such a positive figure in my life.
