We had the good fortune of connecting with Mona Arestil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mona, how did you come up with the idea for your business?

The idea of starting a mentorship program was in me before I knew what it was. I have had various mentors in my life, from the time I came to the United States as a young child. Being young, I didn’t realize how valuable having a mentor was until I got into high school. I had one mentor in particular that genuinely cared about me and my well-being. She showed up for me in ways I didn’t expect her to. She checked in with me, opened my eyes to different cultural experiences and even would ask about my family. From then I knew I wanted to be in a career where I can show compassion and care towards others. Especially young people because someone was there for me. As a college student, I participated in a weekend Leadership Institute program as a delegate for my organization. I was there to have fun and meet new people but I had no idea that I would gain insight into what it takes to be a leader. By the end of that weekend, we had to develop our visions and write out a plan. I wanted to create an enrichment program that nourishes the whole child and not just tackle behavior issues. Since then, I have been in the field of Education with almost 20 years of experience. From running Educational programs to mentoring youth from all walks of life. All of those cumulating experiences and encounters with a vast range of individuals paved the way for my vision. I not only know what it takes to be a mentor, but I have first-hand experience on how valuable the right type of mentorship can be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I am an Educator. I find joy in seeing my scholars develop into who they are meant to be in this world. I am known for meeting people( students) where they are and providing a little light to guide them along the way. I am proud of being someone who never gives up on herself. I am proud of being the Founder of Beaming Brite Mentoring Inc. I decided how I wanted to show up in this world and did exactly that. Most of all, I know who I am. Knowing that is key in expanding and growing into the best version of yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Atlanta is rich with different cuisine from all walks of life. There are both healthy and not so healthy options all over the city. You must visit Tassili’s Raw Reality, Go Vegan Grill, Slutty Vegan, Red Pepper Taqueria, Slush ATL, Kafenio Avondale and the many options located at Politician Row at Colony Square and Ponce City Market. There’s always festival’s going on at all times and pop up events. From yoga in the park to a concert. Something for everybody.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

None of this would be possible without Beaming Brite’s Board Members and The Beaming Brite Team. My wonderful graphic designer, who likes to work behind the scenes. The coaching I received from Clark and Clark Inc. and Kamila Brown Washington’s program( Kreate A Profitable Blueprint). Also, the various friends and family members who support my organization.
