Meet Moataz Elkasrawy | “Dr. Elk”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Moataz Elkasrawy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Moataz, how does your business help the community?
At Elkdental, we don’t believe that great dental care has to come at the expense of the planet. We’re working hard to change the high-waste reputation of dentistry by building a practice that gives back more than it takes.
We’ve built our clinic in an EarthCraft-certified space, designed to be energy-efficient, and kind to the environment. Our big goal? Reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
Joining the B Corp (Pending) community is our way of ensuring our social and environmental impact matches our ambition
For Dr. Elk and his team, this work goes beyond the office. Whether it’s volunteering with Global Dental Relief or local Mission of Mercy programs, we’re dedicated to helping our neighbors—both here in Georgia and across the globe.

What should our readers know about your business?
We’re not your typical clinical dental office. At Elkdental, we are humans first and dentists second. For us, it’s all about listening first—we really take the time to understand our patients dental needs and concerns. We know most people dread the dentist, so we built a place where you can actually feel at ease. We’re proud of the fact that we focus on the individual behind the smile rather than just fixing teeth.
Getting Elkdental to where it is today wasn’t easy. It took a lot of grit, some sleepless nights, and a few “how are we going to do this?” moments. But those challenges taught us that you can’t shortcut quality or care. We learned that if you treat your team like family and your patients like neighbors, everything else falls into place.
Here’s what we want the world to know: It’s never too late to love your smile. No judgment, no lectures—just honest, transparent & high-quality care. We’re here to help you feel comfortable, healthy and confident, one visit at a time. That’s the Elkdental way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Morning: Coffee and Local Culture
Fuel Up: Start with wood-fired bagels and coffee at B-Side or enjoy the community-focused, local vibe at Waller’s Coffee Shop
Lunch: Louisiana Bistreaux
The Order: Get the Seafood Gumbo. It’s built on a dark, rich roux that rivals anything in New Orleans.
Pro Tip: Visit on a Wednesday for live jazz, though the food is a “powerhouse” every day of the week.
Afternoon: The “Secret” Search
Hidden Art: Walk back toward the Square to find the Secret Doors Decatur—tiny, whimsical art installations hidden on buildings and trees. It’s a great way to discover the area’s independent shops.
Evening: Cocktails & Songwriters.
Catch a performance at Eddie’s Attic, a premier acoustic venue located just above the pub. Known as a springboard for legends like John Mayer and Sugarland, it remains the best place in town for live music and a great cocktail
Late Night Treat: Walk over to Butter & Cream for a scoop of “Honeycomb” or “OG Goodness” ice cream to end the night on a sweet note.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate this shoutout to the Kendeda Building at Georgia Tech. We’re currently on a mission to become a net zero carbon dental office, so having a net-positive energy model right in our backyard is a huge inspiration!
It’s easily one of the most sustainable buildings in the world and a perfect ‘living’ example of how architecture can actually give back to the planet instead of just taking from it.
A huge thanks as well to Professor Michael Oxman from the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business, seeing this kind of regenerative design in person really shows what’s possible.
