We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Missy, what do you attribute your success to?
Relatability. I want when a bride walks away from her big day to not only feel confident and beautiful, but I want her to walk away feeling heard, encouraged, empowered and loved. Being relatable and engaging and real with your customers not only comforts them, but encourages them as well. I love it when brides and their bridesmaids tell me that they felt like I was a part of the family or bridal party or group. To me, that is key. As artists we shouldn’t be there to provide a service, we should be there to enhance the day and to do that you must be part of the journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always loved makeup. I remember being a little girl watching my god mother getting ready for a date and seeing the transformation she created and thee way she felt after wards. In high school I loved practicing on my friends and my sisters friends for proms and homecomings. Before You Tube and other social media outlets were a thing where at the click of a key you could find a tutorial I would spend my time at department store makeup counters watching MUA’s and learning the tricks of the trade. I found myself taking bits and pieces from these brands and their MUA’s and creating my own techniques and tricks. I pride myself in listening to my customers and ensuring that their voices are heard and their visions are achieved. My business is predicated on word of mouth and I love knowing that my next job was built because someone from a previous job was so happy she shared me with others. In this business you sometimes feel like you have to stay relevant in order to succeed which on one hand is true, but success is not gaged on just the numbers of customers you have. It truly is about how much you love what you do, sharing that love with others and on the other end of that coming away fulfilled.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Marty. I know it may sounds cheesy, but he truly is my rock. We have walked some tough roads over the last 2o years. Some we created due to poor decisions and some that were thrown our way. However, because of those roads and what we endured we have championed a relationship that is steadfast and encouraging.
