We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikayla Byers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikayla, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I feel like giving up is the easy route. If you know you’re good at something then use that skill to your best ability. I feel like a lot of things in life are risks, and it’s up to us to either take them or not. We live in a time where social media is very great resource that can lead us to many great opportunities. I feel like anyone can achieve anything if they truly put their mind to it. I try to take “giving up” out of my vocabulary and mind. What we perceive as “impossible” is a false narrative in our minds that tend to make us overthink. If you train your mind to believe in yourself and put the work in behind it, you will soon see your dreams come true.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Breezy Season is an evolving streetwear brand that’s all about remembering when it’s your time to showcase your skills, talents, and confidence to the world. I honestly created my brand on accident, but I always knew that I wanted to do something involving fashion. I feel like it was a sign to create something everlasting. Long story short, I’m a huge sneaker fanatic and decided to bleach an orange hoodie and put my logo on it to match a pair of orange Nike Dunks. I posted it on my social media platforms and it’s been history ever since. The hoodie was originally supposed to be mine, but it sold within a few hours. Being the brains behind the brand has led me to so many great opportunities, and I feel like it’s my season to conquer the world with my creative abilities. I tend not to put myself in a box when it comes to my talents. I’m a dancer, musician, video editor, photo editor, social media manager, graphic designer, fashion designer, photographer, videographer. What’s impossible to me? Nothing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend to Miami because I love the great vibes there. I’d try to find the best restaurants and places to just chill and have a great time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to credit my family and my hometown, Gadsden, AL for really molding me into the person I am today. My brothers, Michael Byers and Carl J. Byers, are two of my main mentors. Mike is an innovative fashion designer, stylist and music artist. Carl is a photographer, music producer, and musician. I honestly can’t even name all of their skills because my family is all around talented. Being the youngest and the only girl to witness my family thrive, fueled my drive into being the best fashion designer that I can be. My parents, Carl and Joy Byers, destined my brothers and I for pure greatness.
