Meet Micaela Dee | Director, Producer, Writer & Life Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Micaela Dee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Micaela, what role has risk played in your life or career?
No matter what I choose to do in life, there is risk. I found myself realizing I would rather take risks in areas that truly matter to me instead of playing it safe. I left my stable sales career for the acting and film industry four years ago, and I haven’t looked back since. I quickly become a Director, then a Regional Director for American Immersion Theater, the second largest theater company in the U.S., where I am responsible for 80 local actors and a few hundred other actors across the country. While continuing to Direct for AIT, I took on the role of Director of Judging for Cinema Life, a collection of 8 Film Festivals, where I work closely with the Festival Director to create training programs for our judges and oversee that hundreds of projects are rated fairly. Recently, I have taken on producing my own show, Sloppy Soaps, an interactive soap opera, on Friday Nights at RoleCall Theater in Ponce City Market. It was a huge risk to even become an actor, and now I get to impact hundreds of people each month as a Director, Leader, Writer, Producer, Actor, and Mentor all because I took that initial risk and continue to launch myself into new endeavors. Each time I take a risk, I am trusting myself to produce the results I am out to create. In order to do that, I had to create a healthy relationship with failure. I do not always get it right, and that is both normal and to be expected. Instead of allowing failure to stop me, or allow it to mean anything negative about me, I look at failure as simply not creating the results I set out to produce. I use my failures in risk to grow and then I look for a new action to take that is going to work instead. So I say, take the risk and make it fun!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am extremely excited to be launching my new show, Sloppy Soaps, at RoleCall Theater in Ponce City Market. Every Friday night, I create a new soap opera for the audience to become a part of and get extremely sloppy while playing along. We have secret words where everyone has to take a drink, and some audience members have found it best to have more than one drink with them to last through the duration of the show. It has been a true joy to watch people laugh at what I write and realize it’s not just funny in my head! I have learned the importance of having a great team and flexibility when creating a new project. Each week, my actors bring the characters I write to life and add their own unique flare. Without them, the show would not be possible! I also have a team of consultants who meet with me each week to go over the performance and share what makes sense, what doesn’t, what edits should be made, and how the show will come across for an audience member. Getting to work with such great, talented people while bringing memories and making a difference for our audience is an honor for me!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all, I so badly want for this to be real right now! One of my favorite things to do when people come from out of town is to get fake mustaches, go to the World of Coke, and try all the coke products from around the world. I also enjoy taking people for nice, nature walks. I find the waterfall at Vickery Creek to be a great place to sit and relax while picnicking. A recent find I have been enjoying is SCREAM’N NUTS, which is a delicious locally owned donut shop in Alpharetta. I am sure we would visit there once, or twice, or every day. Lastly, a must see is always the Atlanta BeltLine. The local art is always inspiring, I can usually find some King of Pops, and when I get hungry I like to walk off the BeltLine and discover a new, local place to eat!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be who I am today if it was not for my own coaches, Sylvia Mcelwain and Jessica Smith. I hear them in my head every day shouting “SO WHAT!” anytime I have a fear or reservation. Neither of them let me play it small in life, and for that I am truly grateful. These are two of the most powerful, loving women I have ever met and I truly am honored to call them my friends.
