We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I generally just needed a new hobby because I just had started my first year of college. I was adjusting to this new life and journey I just embarked on. And I just listed out the hobbies or gifts I had that I was good at and hair was a one of many.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m determined to do everything in my power to make the life I’ve dreamed of a reality. I’m not considered a “professional hairstylist” yet but as I do grow my business I pride myself on professionalism. And that’s something a lot of top business owners and or businesses don’t have! The road to even starting my business wasn’t easy but I had all this time on my hands and I wanted to take up a new hobby. So one day over college winter break I made my logo and social media accounts and it went from there. Along the way I’ve learned to never stop doing something you enjoy because of others. You get some good clients and some bad so you just need to understand that at the end of the day if you enjoy what you do the bad shouldn’t matter. And lastly, I want the world to know that my brand and story has just begun and will continue to grow!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my bestfriend to Mei Mei, it’s a Taiwanese restaurant with a beautiful ambiance and amazing food and drinks. I’d also take her too Rose’s Taco bar, Maison Sweet, and City view. Roses Taco bar has amazing tacos and nachos. Maison Sweets is a a desert place. They sell boba tea, other beautiful drinks, and deserts. And finally City View, it’s a classic spot in Philadelphia to get some amazing pizza and wings. In regards to places to visit and hang out, I’d take her to Penns landing and give her a tour of downtown Philadelphia on a scooter or bike or even walking depending on the weather. Penns Landing is by the waterfront. They have restaurants, games, skating (ice skating in the winter and regular skating), Ferris wheel, a boat, and many other things. It’s a great spot to chill but all have fun. And lastly a tour of Downtown Philadelphia. Downtown Philadelphia is nice! You can see many restaurants, jazz clubs, and museums. I’d tell you some good spots we could go too such as Franklin Institute museum, and even trails to walk on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother! She always told me that I could take my gifts to the next level. And all I needed to do was be CONSISTENT! She always pushed me to embark on any niche, you never have to be tied down to 1! And if you’re good at something you can definitely make money off of it to fund your other talents.
