We had the good fortune of connecting with Mercedes Elston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mercedes, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote or affirmation has lately become “THROUGH is the only option.” This came to be with my journey of living with and healing from my diagnoses of Lupus and a skin disease called Hidradenitis Suppurativa(HS). Within the last two years my health declined greatly. I even lost my mobility. As you can imagine, going through this in my 20’s, has been extremely challenging. It was recently when my faith increased, and I simply decided to go THROUGH. It will be hard. I will have weakness. But I won’t give up. So daily, I remind myself, that going through is my only option… Forward Movement Only.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My art varies. I am a recording artist, an author, and I see myself as a pusher of sorts- I’ll explain that later lol. I have been singing professionally since I was 10 years old, releasing my debut single “I’ve Got It” in 2017. I’ve had my share of challenges in the music industry as a gospel artist who wanted to explore other genres. I often struggled with the opinions of others, but grew to know that God gave me my gift to share beyond the “four walls” of church. I branched out of my comfort zone and released my first secular single in 2021 entitled “I Wish.”
Along with writing music, I am currently writing my debut novel, to be released 2024. I am so excited to share with you all.
As a pusher, I intend to “push” or propel everyone I encounter. It may not be in a formal setting, or even a full inspirational message, but I want my interaction with whomever to leave a lasting impression of faith. I want to leave you knowing that you can concur ANYthing you face.
So that’s me. Mercedes, the pen.

Singer. Writer. Pusher.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Is church fun for y’all? Ha! If my best friend were in town that’s where we’re going.
5300 Frontage Rd Forest Park, Ga
Victory City Church
And we’re going to dance, cry, and get fed an amazing word by Bishop Marc L House.
I haven’t always been the best church member, but I found life here, so naturally, I’m going to share it with my people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents Apostle Tracy Carzell and Elder Johnny Elston, my pastor Bishop Marc L House, and my entire village. I am because of you!
