Hi Melissa, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
NFT’s! To be honest, I am still learning about Non Fungible Tokens but this is something that has made its way into the art industry and I have no choice but to stay abreast. In short, an NFT is a Non-Fungible Token (a unique digital token), which many see as a certificate of authenticity, or a deed or proof confirming you own the right to display the above art on your wall or in digital wallet. Because every NFT is unique, they can be used to authenticate ownership of digital assets like artworks, recordings, and even virtual real estate. Crazy right? I know. Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What keeps me busy along my creative journey, is constantly exploring new ways to visually communicate through storytelling. I can confidently say that I am where I am today because of my curiosity and consistent desire to expand. Through a hybrid of mediums, I am able to set myself apart from others and fulfill visual and socially engaging projects that capture Black culture right now. I want the world to recognize and acknowledge me as someone whose practice is dedicated to celebrating the historical narratives of diverse journeys across the Black and African diasporas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ahhh! I feel like there are a whole lot of people to give credit to and special shout outs but I’ll keep it cute and say Mama Sutherland deserves recognition in my story. I truly believe that she deserves a lot of credit because she embodies the quote by late rapper Nipsey Hussle “The game will test you never fold. Stay ten toes down it’s not in you it’s on you and what’s in you they can never take away”. Every time I hear that quote, I think about her discipline, humility, toughness, and integrity. To have migrated from Costa Rica to America in her early 20s and hustled a comfortable life for her family is astonishing. She inspires me every day and I owe my success to her. :: claps hands :: She’s da G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time).
