Meet Melinda: Social Media Consultant & Trainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melinda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melinda, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to get behind, feel overwhelmed, and spend one or two nights working till 1 am only to realize the lack of sleep made it hard to function effectively the next day. Plus, the gains I made by working late didn’t last long. Before you know it I would be overwhelmed again, sometimes within a couple of days. I’ve come to realize there will always be work to get done. You never arrive at the end of your list. Learning this lesson has made it easier to say no, to not accept every opportunity that comes my way. However, it’s a continual process to balance family needs with customer needs. I’m still working on saving some energy for my family at the end of the day so I can give them my best and not the leftovers.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Resonate is a team of moms who manage social media for small businesses. I’m a consultant specializing in helping people overwhelmed by social media to manage it themselves effectively and work it into their busy schedules. After being a stay-at-home mom for 5 years, it was huge that I was given an opportunity to learn and grow into a role, so it’s a great blessing I’m able to pay it forward by offering the same kind of flexible opportunity to other moms. I recently won Alignable’s Local Small Business Person of the Year due to votes by my network and I’m so appreciative of their support!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Both downtown Marietta and downtown Woodstock have great, fun places to eat and shops to explore. A couple of my family’s favorites are Tiny Bubbles tea shop and Blue Frog art. Stone Mountain is pretty unique, so it’s usually a stop for any guests that haven’t been there before. I grew up in Texas and Braum’s ice cream is the big thing there, so we usually take them to Brewster’s ice cream for comparisons.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m very grateful to my East Cobb Women in Business lunch group for their support and feedback. Working from home you miss the camaraderie that comes with an office job and not only has these ladies helped me by being a sounding board, but they also help fill that need for community and connectedness.
