We had the good fortune of connecting with Mela Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mela, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others” – Marianne Williamson

This quote means that we spend a lot of time very apprehensive and fearful of our our own greatness and our power. This fear is created in falsehood. However we feed this fear and allow it become greater. I Love the fact that this quote reached in myself and took out the very element and pieces of me that I was unaware could even be put into words. I also love how this quote assisted me with being courageous enough to stop dimming myself down, because my light was so bright, it could never dim or dull. I was meant to shine and assist others with being part of or in full: a light themselves.

What should our readers know about your business?
Business wise, I got to where I am today by trial and error. I was aware that I would face trial and tribulations along with my growing pains. I made many errors, but my journey was never an error in its self. I wanted to be the difference. I am currently still on that journey, it definitely was not easy. I believe I overcame most of life’s personal and professional challenges by simply accepting myself and my unique abilities.

•The lesson I learned along the way is ; I was never dealt looking for myself or the “lost me”. I was simply creating her the whole time and I had no knowledge until I was midway through my self discovery.

•I want the world to know to know that I operate, practice and exhibit pure love. I believe in simplicity in its natural purest element. My brand was created and designed with women in mind. Because we are all in sync one way or another. We all have had some of the same struggles, I wanted to remain as transparent as possible when conceiving Me By Mela.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my good friend , who loved out of town was visiting Chicago; I would take her in the west loop area as well as north bear Milwaukee & Damen. Where there are very cool, modern contemporary shops . Along with vintage and retro style individuals. We would visit Neon Summer, Along With the Black Ensemble up north on Beacon street.
