We had the good fortune of connecting with Mel Chanel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mel, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
The burning question, for me, I found the answer through feedback. In my 3 years of being an artist , I’m proud to say that I’ve never received any negative feedback about my music. Criticism yes , but never a negative reaction. The majority of my fans are nearly begging me for more music, and that gives me undoubted confidence.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I grew up in the church, I’m a choir child. I understand the structure of music the cadences, tempo different tones. I’ve been around it all my life so singing and delivering comes naturally. I think this sets me apart from other artist, it gives me a great advantage. I’d say im most proud of my ability to change genres of music. I can make rnb as well as pop or more commonly hip hop. I’ve only been releasing music professionally on al platforms for a couple years so I haven’t gained much other than local recognition. The challenges im facing now are simply exposure and financial stability. As an independent artist everything I do comes out of pocket, I have no sponsors so sometimes it gets difficult to balance my life’s expenses.

I want the world to not only know my name but to realize that I have the potential to be a generation defining artist. With my ability to create & reach different areas of music I can gain quick traction and form a huge fan base. Once I get my foot in the door “Mel Chanel” & “Top Notch” will not only be related to music but multiple avenues for example clothing lines , trucking , film directing etc.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d say let’s go to the strip club for sure!

a week long schedule would include open bars , showcasing for indie artist & malls.

I’d also say take a trip to the selfie museum

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes to my fans, whether they started to listen out of pure curiosity or from word of mouth they have been consistent!
