We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Myrie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
My identity makes me happy. The person that I am/ am becoming makes me happy. A main reason is because I love being a creative person. I love being able to express myself through creative outlets, but I also love being able to take other people’s ideas and help them to express themselves creatively.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a graphic designer, as well as a singer. I’ve always been a creative person, participating in various artforms, from dance, to poetry, to photography, but I’ve become very comfortable (although there is lots of room left to grow) in the music and design spaces. Professionally, I have a design company, MGD LLC (Megagraphics Design LLC) and I am also a singer under the name “Domeríe”. Both of these passions of mine really got to develop in the last 2-3 years. The COVID pandemic gave me lots of space and time to learn more about myself and what I want to do. Through the learning, I was able to produce two main things that I believe have “put my name out there” in the spaces I want to be seen in. I started my design company in July of 2020 and just made two years in business. I started making music in about March of 2021 and just released my first project titled “c y c l e s” in March of this year. None of this was easy necessarily. Crating has come with ease because I feel very connected to music and design. Insecurities, inconsistency, financial struggles, etc. I am, however, very proud of what I am building and believe my company and my album are just the start!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely want to expose them to some of the various open-mics and performances I’ve attended. I am from Chicago and believe that we have some AMAZING talent here. I’d also love to visit a museum or two. The Museum of Contemporary Art is a favorite. I’d also love to take a walk around the Hyde Park neighborhood. It’s one of my favorite places to go, and it has great food, great stores, nice parks, etc. I also enjoy going to clubs and would probably want to take my friend to a club. There’s so many great clubs in the city and I don’t really have a favorite so, which ever is having a great DJ is most likely the one we’d attend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my family, who was always supported me as a creative being. Shoutout to teachers/ instructors/ mentors helped me along the way. Shoutout to God. Shoutout to the friends who have supported me as well with tons of encouraging words and moments. I am very grateful for everyone who has played a role in my life! (:
