We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what do you attribute your success to?
The Most important factor behind my success is my team. The structure of The CollectIf Project consists of each member contributing a different skill set outside of just Dance Performance/Ministry. I am a true Visual Artist and have been able to “see the end result” however, execution and application have always been my downside. As a leader I have had to be accountable to my weaknesses and find others to assist with keeping the fire going for our company. The true success of my brand consist of the success of each person that contributes to the teams success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art and creativity is heavily influenced by my spirituality. The Collectif Project is a professional Faith based dance company that is rooted in the technical facets of the art form as well as understanding we are all rooted by the source, God. I am most proud that we maintain that focus in all that we do and that exudes in our brand locally and internationally. I got to where I am professionally by training in the art form since age 4. My parents also invested in putting me into dance training in and outside of church as well as enrolling me into Performing Arts Schools (Thomas G. Pullen 6th-8th & Suitland High School CVPA 9th-12th) to focus solely on my talent. I also continued my training at Towson University as. a Dance Performance Major and graduated with my BFA in 2013. Throughout the years I have had several experiences training and working with different artists, choreographing, and instructing others as well. The journey I have taken to get to where I am was not easy, but so worth it. I remained focused, kept my discipline intact, and always made sure to set the best example for the generations after me that also seen dance as a “career.” One main lesson that I learned is that your plan is not always THE plan. I found a way to stay fluid and creative in my decision making. I trusted solely on God to place me in the right paths for opportunities and to remove me from anything that was not serving. I want the world to know that God is the author and illustrator of everything that this brand encompasses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without the unwavering support of my family and friends through the years I would not be where I am today. Without the constant reminder of my daughter (mini-me) looking at my every move I would lack the urgency and ambition to make magic happen and set the example.
