We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Tankovic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meg, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first started in the hair industry I hustled from 9 in the morning til 8-9 at night. I worked every Saturday and didn’t turn any client away. I did this for at least 8 years. And then I got married, moved around with my husband for his training, and then we started to have kids. When we started to move a lot I decided to pivot from behind the chair and start promoting myself in the bridal hair industry. I started out taking brides any day of the week and most of the weekend. I started that company in 2017 and I have slowly started adding other artists to my team. As I have done that, I have taken a step back and take only one wedding per weekend so I can be home with my husband and kiddos!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2017 I decided to venture out and start my own bridal hair business. It grew fast over the next few years and I saw that a lot of brides wanted the option to add on makeup with hair. So, I brought on some MUA’s that their work complimented my hair portfolio. We specialize in a natural glam makeup, updos, natural curly hair, and voluminous half up half downs. I am most proud of the natural curl look that I provide. Not every hair stylist loves working with natural curls and I really pride myself in that look. I am also thrilled that I have some amazing ladies that work alongside me. They are professional, encouraging, driven and so talented. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my team.

At first, my biggest challenge was the administrative side of the business. I went back to college and studied Business Administration and it was one of the best things I did for my business and myself.
I learned so much and really was able to grow exponentially after. Social media was another huge part of my growth and taking the time to advertise on Instagram and not spend a million dollars on other platforms. You can pay over $1K a month on some bridal planning sites to advertise, and yes, you get brides, but at the end of the day it’s better to save that money and try and advertise on Instagram and through word of mouth.,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are HUGE sports fans. Even if Atlanta isn’t known to have amazing teams. I would take them downtown to a Falcon’s, Atlanta United, or Hawk’s game. Then the next day we could go to a farmer’s market, Halycon in Alpharetta, or just to an outdoor festival or park. There is always something going on outdoors in Georgia. I have kids, so we always try to find something outdoors with food and a playground! We also play pickleball – so Pickle and Social is a must for us if we have a sitter!

If you are a city person – Ponce City Market and Krog Street are great to check out for food and people watching. Waygu House in Atlanta is a restaurant that is on the 13th floor and has some of the best Japanese BBQ and views with an outdoor bar!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad and husband. My dad was my inspiration to start my own business from a young age. He was an entrepreneur and one of the hardest workers I have ever been around. My husband is my biggest supporter and is also one of the most motivated and dedicated people I know. They both have helped shape me more than they know!
