Hi MDTthePRODUCER, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have never been money driven. In fact I look at the money being a plus along with my main focus which is doing what I love to do. Music has always been a passion of mine since before I could walk and talk. My thought process in starting a business was to educate myself on the ins and outs of the music industry first before committing to the dream. After gaining years of experience in the business I decided to form a music production recording and songwriting company (Writer Verse). Our main focus is to create a hub or community of songwriters producers and creatives where they could express their creativity and passion for any form of telling a story.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Michael Thomas aka MDTthePRODUCER and I have been producing music in the city of Atlanta for a little over a decade. Born and raised in Chicago, moving to Lousiana and now living in our home in Atlanta Ga, I’ve developed a versatile approach to creating music. I’ve launched a music production company MDT MUSIC, LLC as well as a songwriting company Writer Verse LLC. Over the years I’ve worked in many recording studios learning to mix, master, engineer and write songs for many artists around the world. I decided to invest in my own home studio where I can work remotely to provide all musical services as well as maintain a steady work life balance. It has been a challenge over the years to stay consistent, because the thing about music is that it is always evolving. The business continues to change as well. So to stay relevant and to keep up can be quite exhausting and quite frankly, expensive. However I was able to work hard and invest in what I love to do. What has helped me to do this is focusing on why i want to do this. I realized that creating music is healing for me. Not letting the love of money drive the business is what keeps it going. That may not be the most popular opinion, but it works and it has worked for myself and others we enjoy working with. Our clients are attracted by our talent and the positive vibe we promote in every studio session. Our Writer Verse brand welcomes anyone who is a creative to share positive messages through music, spoken word, play writes, songwriting etc, working together to achieve each others goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends love to visit from time to time and I always take them to one of my favorite studios in Atlanta Ga. Patchwerk Studios is a legendary landmark recording studio here in Atlanta where many well known artists such as Mariah Carey, Outkast, Young Jeezy,Rick Ross, Ceelo Green, TI, Jagged Edge, Atlanta’s own Outkast, and many others around the world have embarked on their music journey. Not far from that studio we stop by a famous soul food restaurant known as K and K Soul Food. It’s the best soul food restaurant that’s been around for generations. All over the city of Atlanta you’ll find beautiful sceneries and things to do, but if you want to get a good view of the city skyline, I usually take my guests to Ponce City Market. On the roof top of Skyline Park you can see the city light up at night and enjoy music and drinks with friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not have been able to start this successful musical journey without the love and support from my wife Erika whom I just celebrated a 14th year anniversary with. She has been a tremendous help over these years and has lifted me up every day. Her love and encouragement continues to fuel my creativity. I would also like to thank all of our creatives and songwriters in the Writer Verse community for all of their hard work and commitment to our core values of Integrity, innovation, creativity, and teamwork.
