We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Olds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
This year alone working with my brand has taught me all about patience. That’s the major key to a successful business. Everything doesn’t happen over night. Just keep going and trust the process.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I first created Infrared By Maya my main goal was to be different. Infrared is the best way to describe my fashion sense. Every detail from the colors, size, or even the fabric it’s made from. Just like infrared in science, our fashion exists outside of the typical spectrum the world has seen. I just want my clothing brand to bring something different to the table. A lot of my ideas are outside the box. I must say this was a very difficult process. With learning everything from scratch sometimes it get overwhelming but I kept going. One lesson I’ve learn is that I’m my only enemy, if I don’t win, it’s self-sabotage.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I’m from the Florida Panhandle area. There’s so many things you can do. For a good place to have fun and play arcade games at check out “Rubicon Pool & Arcade” in Chipley, Florida. If you down for a good time come to “GVO” in Tallahassee, Florida. They have so many events going on everyday of the week. Seeing a FAMU Football game is must. The halftime show is literally the best part.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I would like to Thank God. Thank “The Family.” Thank Aliyah the only person that can keep up with my ideas. She’s really the backbone behind Infrared By Maya. Thank you to people that supported me. I wish I could named each and every last one of you.
