We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurice Figgins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maurice, how do you think about risk?
I view risk as an investment in my mental freedom. If something makes me nervous, it’s often a sign I’m on the right path. If your dream doesn’t scare you, it isn’t big enough—and reaching that dream involves big risks. One of the biggest I’ve taken was quitting my corporate sales job with nothing but faith, then investing in a major project with no clear plan or path on how it would push me further in my career—just the conviction that it needed to be done.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got to where I am professionally by staying humble through every accomplishment, always knowing there was more to learn and achieve. Was it easy? Not at all. I’ve taken on gigs that were frustrating, unpaid, or underpaid, faced heavy criticism, put in countless hours of practice, and heard plenty of “no’s.” But I wouldn’t trade any of it—those challenges shaped me into who I am today.

I’ve overcome challenges through prayer, keeping a clear vision of my end goal, and leaning on mentors who’ve been where I am and are now where I want to be. It doesn’t make the journey easier, but it makes it bearable—and absolutely worth it.

What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that it’s rooted in purpose—a God-given purpose. Every move I make is with the intention of helping someone feel better about themselves or about life. If encountering me or my work brings even a moment of relief, joy, or clarity, then I’ve done my job.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sunday kicks off with church in the morning, followed by a good brunch. In the evening, we’d head to Block & Drum for some incredible live Jazz Fusion.
Monday, it’s off to the Aquarium—there’s something about being around water that brings me peace.
Tuesday, we’d hit the Beltline or The Battery for a scenic walk, great food, and maybe even an impromptu photoshoot.
Wednesday, it’s Backstage ATL for one of the dopest jam sessions in the city—pure creative energy.
Thursday, we’d dine at Cuts Steakhouse—hands down one of the best steaks I’ve had in Atlanta.
Friday and Saturday are all about spontaneity—no plans, no limits, just vibes and wherever the day takes us.

(All of the days are subject to change dependent on if I have a show or a photoshoot scheduled)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom! She is my biggest supporter. No matter what crazy career decision I make, she’s in support of it. And I’ve made some interesting jumps career wise lol
