We had the good fortune of connecting with Masiyah Austin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Masiyah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
A risk is something that is the main voyage of an entrepreneur. Without taking risk an entrepreneur would be no where with their business. Taking a risk is something that entrepreneurs live by, without “risk” there wouldn’t be any independent business owners. When I first started my business , risk was the main factor of it all. I was working a part time job that consisted of 12hr shifts straight out of highschool. I knew i wanted to do something, i just didn’t know what. I knew helping people is something that I enjoyed doing, but in which way? I wasn’t necessarily sure. I took a $900 lash class and went from there. I saved some money from my job and started buying lash supplies. I started in my home and knew that if I wanted to grow and expand my clientele I would have to get inside of a shop. With only $500 in my pocket and little to none clientele , I took the risk and quit my job and moved into the salon where I was paying $125 a week. Taking risk has allowed me to grow mentally. I did this , so now I know for a fact I can do anything I put my mind to.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im proud of how far I’ve come when I first started not too long ago. Not only have I gotten better at doing lashes. I’ve grown mentally as well. With this being my passion, and handling every client I get with care and compassion sets my apart from the people that are doing this is as a hobby or just to make extra money. Getting to the place that I am now wasn’t easy, but I had faith in myself and my business and knew that my hard work would pay off. I overcame the challenges by remaining optimistic and talking to god on a daily basis. I’ve learned that in reality you have to be your number 1 supporter.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My step dad. Keith is somebody that deserves some recognition. He inspired me to be a successful business owner. Watching him operate several of his business made me realize that I could do the same.
