We had the good fortune of connecting with Martello Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martello, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
It really hasn’t changed besides more time dedicated to music Music creates a balance for me so without it everything else falls out of place.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make psychedelic Atlanta rap with various genre twists. I really can’t say it’s all rap though either cause ill come out and sing on a track if it matches the tone I need to express. I’m just trying to make music that I know people can connect with and music that remains as authentic as possible.
I’m most excited bout about Fenty Princess and all the new music I have coming up. So much time went into this new stuff so it’s really crazy to see it finally about all come about.

It’s been 3 years since I started recording music but only about a year and a half since I really got a set recording situation fasho.

The lesson I learned was there ain’t shortcuts in this music industry you gotta find your sound perfect it and craft it to times or your own situations if need be. That’s always seen in the reception that the fans give you but I see how it makes me feel after.

I want the world to know a creative with a mind that never stops imagining crazy shit for people to consume.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If somebody visits ATL im taking them to JJs fasho the best chicken and shrimp that I have had here. And then for some fun we going to the East Side to kick it with La Familia cause dem the best vibes no cap!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
