We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquerite Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marquerite, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Atlanta,GA and raised Decatur,Ga. Growing up in the city can be very challenging from life’s ups and downs. However I didn’t let it get the best of me. When you wanted to chase your dreams but you couldn’t is what I had to deal with. And in order for me to make my dreams come true I had to go through the bad and the ugly to get to where I am now. Being in school plays, musicals and dancing in church has brought me a long way cause I didnt think that i would actually be doing this now that i’m in my 30’s and it has been nothing short of an amazing experience for me. To really be able to show my talents now versus’s then is still exciting to me!!!!! Never knew that being the person that I am today would be such a humbling growth process. When you get questioned, OH my how long have you been doing this?, How you learned to act or dance like that? And I just simply say its been there never knew I had the potential to do any of this. I’m just a natural and it amazes me how many people are so proud of how far i have come. Because i came from nothing to something and I did it and I’m going to keep doing it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well in 2019 I worked in the Stage play called Sin Has No Titles produced, written, directed Jazmine Steed I played the role of Cousin Keisha she was one of the cousin’s that didn’t play about her family and she only came around when food was involved LOL. Shortly after that I got a role in a popular Youtube Series called Atlanta’s Ugly playing the role of Council Woman Maggie who is running to become Mayor of Atlanta I’m in Seasons 5,6,7 and I’m currently still working on this show so check it out on YouTube at 10pm every Friday night. Because i’m different and i know what i can bring to the table. My most proud and exciting moments are being recognize for my work when I go different places and it makes me happy that people can see who i am in person versus’s on a tv screen or there phone. It took a lot of confidence, prayers, ambition and motivation. It wasnt easy it was hard sometimes and staying focus, blocking out distractions, noise and becoming one with yourself and encouraging others that they can do it. I’ve learned to overcome my fears and to not rush and to take it step by step because everything doesn’t happen overnight. So to be the best you have to be the best. That even though i went through alot in my life to not knock me for wanting to become someone who i never thought i would become. Or to not think that because I didnt finish something that i want back and do it. Because at the end of the day we all have to go through the bad before we can get to good. And i cant wait to be on a bigger platform to be able to tell who i really am.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be honest i really dont have a favorite spot to go to or hangout. Im more of a chilled type of person. But a lot pf places thats here are very good places to go. The clubs, the eating places.
